Notch demotool (formerly DemolitionFX by Fairlight) has been released!
category: general [glöplog]
Hey, guys.
Some good news here. Smash of Fairlight has just released the Notch demotool (formerly known as DemolitionFX). Revision 2016 presentation here: https://youtu.be/HhHBeXthGzA?t=2179
Although the tool is commercial (and still in beta) and the trial version is relentlessly save-disabled, you should be able to appreciate this enormous arsenal of tools any demoscener has ever dreamed of.
Details are here: https://www.notch.one.

Wow, ~2100 € (with VAT) per year for a useful version is crazy and completely out of the question for any casual demoscene like use case.
It's a commercial product, it's not aimed at a casual demoscene use case at the moment. Which is why I didn't advertise it here. How it develops in future is to be seen.
You are welcome to check out the trial though.

Yeah... But we should consider that the guys are targeting a very small market: live rock show visuals. In order to make a living what price should they have set if they might have like... 30 customers out there? Prehaps, that's the reason behind the price.
On the other hand, a releasing a special reasonably cut-down free version for sceners would be so cool. Most of us don't need that media-server related stuff to make demos, right? ;))

When I read Notch, I thought of minecraft's creator at first.
Been waiting a while to get my hands on this. :)
Just spent the last hour or so checking out the various sample projects & tinkering with it. Super impressed. Awesome work Matt, and a great website too. The showcase material is fantastic.
I hope that one day my own business may be able to branch into the kind of work that can leverage the power of tools like this. It's something that I would love to do.
Thanks!

Very work for that.
Or you could, you know, just make your own demo tools? Like Fairlight did. :-)
Great that many more are able to witness the kind of sophistication that's been behind Fairlight's PC output this millennium though - Demolition's been known to be the best demo tool for quite a while now, and now you can see just exactly why without knowing Pantaloon or Smash personally. :-)

Awesome tool.
And IMHO the price is a bargain.

I just want to download trial. Do I really have to fill "billing details"? Any easier way?
The price is a bargain considering what can be done with such a tool and its primary target.
Awesome! Hope it'll become the industry standard!

(Oh man, looks like i completely paraphrased p01 there)
tomkh: you could try mailing like it was mentioned somewhere on the page, but considering i did and never got any reply back in over 3 months i wouldn't hold my breath on it. rather try out tooll. who also didn't reply when i applied for beta but atleast they open sourced it now. :D maybe it's my mail that it's too spam sensitive ;)
tool looks cool regardless :)
Smash: I'm mostly freelancing as an 3D artist and this would have been a nice tool in my workflow sometimes. Unfortunately it is far above what I am able to pay. it would be nice if one could save projects we're doing in a way that makes it impossible to use commercially when playing around with the tool.
Also; I would gladly supported notch with money, but right now it must wait
(Hopefully in the future). Good luck with Notch. it's an impressive piece of work.

That's not what I'm saying. "Top notch" is your words.
If the user interface had been more user friendly and easy, then
probably YES.
There are many talented people out there who create software . But I have not seen much of this kinda tools released to the public before, or maybe I just have not followed the developments of various projects well enough.
Let us summarize these tools and perhaps make a proper post about the different applications somewhere?
