Nordlicht 2016 (1st - 3rd of July)
category: parties [glöplog]
oh, wait, missed the window! didn´t say anything, kay?! :)
Important sofascener question: Are the compos going to be streamed live? :)
Have a nice party, folks. :)
gaspode, where are you ??!!!
At home. :(
Unfortunate circumstances led to my decision to skip Nordlicht this year.
But ... had no entries anyway.

Entries are not important. But you are. :)
@Virgill: :) One more reason for you to come to evoke.

Downloaded the releases and running the SID files on my C64 now :)
@menace: Damn, you're quick, though I still see some empty folders in there (tracked and streaming music)
I had intention to participate, hope to make it next year again :)
Just returned back home. Thanks for the party, this goes out to the organizers!
dead mans smile on my face.
thank you for a great party experience, we did not have too many entries but what was there really made me happy :)
btw: I did not recieve a single complaint about the network, did it just work as it should (unbelievable!) or did you just dont care? =)
PS: we know the stream was lousy once again, we are looking for a dedicated stream/video orga to do the streaming next time around (so if you feel like it give us a ring).
now im gonna lie down for probably ever.

Some photos I made can be found at the usual location:

My notes regarding the party:
[+] nice overall atmosphere
[+] good selection of compos; I also like that there were already compos on Friday
[+] interesting and varied live acts
[+] BBQ! Breakfast! <3
[+] yes, the network was stable indeed, even Wi-Fi worked reliably the few times I checked
[o] the hall is slightly sub-optimal because the colums block the view to the bigscreen from most seats; also there's quite a lot of daylight leaking into it (which is actually a good thing in my opinion, except when compos or events run and it becomes too hard to read anything on the bigscreen)
[-] overall organization was somewhat chaotic (you're doing this party for the fifth time now and still have issues like no compo team being present on Friday despite having compos on that day already, a compo missing from the intranet's timetable, and 2.5-hour compo delays? c'mon!)

Had a great time! Thanks so much to the fabulous orga team! I love Nordlicht!
@triace: Thanks :) I can only approve what I am given, the empty folders were simply not uploaded with any content. I left them as placeholders. Organizers feel free to upload the remaining files and let me know. You have my email. :)
Thanks KeyJ, those photos will help me remember this blast we had! =)
It was almost physically painful sitting in the tram today, watching the Lichthaus disappear from view -- I really miss all of you <3

Thanks to the Nordlicht organisers, sponsors and supporters for making this a great party for me once again. You've managed to stick to that great family-like atmosphere ever since the totally overcrowded first edition and as a regular Nordlicht visitor it is definitely cool to see the improvement from year to year, both in terms of facilities as well as from a general organizing point of view. :)

Oh, they're getting better. :)
Btw: Can someone please upload the wild/streaming and tracked music entries to scene.org?
Not until RbR wakes up from post-party coma ;) He's got the partymeister rig which holds all the releases currently. We rushed with the tear down and forgot to export a copy of all files and results prior to shutting down the party network. So it might take another couple days before stuff will finally show up!
Please guys share your pics and party reports with us! I'll try to write something up as well :)

Compo and (unused?) announcement jingles! Pictures will follow.
Thanks for another edition of Nordlicht. Meeting new and old faces is always fun, and the party is surely getting more professional every year - even if the compos were quite delayed once again, which has been discussed above already. Maybe it would also make sense to move some music compos before the graphics compo block as done at other parties - it could help a bit with the current venue as I remember that e.g. some areas in my photo entry were just plain black thanks to ambient light while they were full of details in the original image. But I agree with KeyJ that it was actually very nice that the venue was not super dark between compos. The columns are probably the hall's biggest problem, and I still feel that the venue feels way too much exposed to the general public thanks to the shopping mall right next to it.

Ok time to write a few lines about the northern lights '16! This was the best Nordlicht installment by a long shot. The varied mix of amazing live acts, fun competitions, some of the most intense DJ sets inside and outside I have seen at a party our size, old and new visitors from near and far all contributed to a VERY successful party that never ever felt empty or boring. It was really hard to let go and accept the party has ended when it ended. Seriously suffering from post-party depression here. Three days didn't seem enough time to do all the things you wanna do or talk to everybody.
I'm SUPER proud of my trusty team who had already set up 3/4 of the party place before I arrived there late on thursday night!! This was because I had to travel down south for a university appointment on the same day - which kinda sucked! - but it was all good in the end. A day later, the construction fence, drinks, beer tables and benches arrived, all on time, all really quickly set up. If only there hadn't been so much rain, the weather was a bit of a letdown at times but no disaster either. After a stormy breeze had nearly torn out the tent, we stabilized it with additional stone sockets. When Timbren played his set outside and the BBQ launched, the rainy weather was quickly forgotten.
Apart from missing one remote entry which I had previously downloaded and confirmed (my fault, it'll now be released elsewhere) and the borked up music playback during the Lynx demo (not our fault), the competitions went super smooth and delays were also acceptable. They even contributed to people socializing outside during saturday afternoon, which was a great thing to see. I too had a few great conversations with old and new visitors alike. The demo compo deadline was extended by many hours, some of the shown entries were finished just minutes before the competition started. But they looked SO good it was probably worth it!
Last but not least I'm happy the many different cider flavours and the sushi special at the bar were so well received by everyone. By the end of the party we had sold over 300 cans of cider and dozens of sushi boxes, both sold out the next morning. Some people mentioned that they would like us to stock some less sweet cider variants too, e.g. Magners and Strongbow, so we will be looking into that next time. As far as beer goes, Beck's is slightly more popular than Haake Beck with 6 additional crates sold, about 2/3 of our stock has sold by the end of the party, that's equal to 933 0.3l bottles of beer.
Will there be a Nordlicht next year? Most likely so. You can mark the first two weeks of July 2017 in your calendar because that is when it will be if it will be!
And if you still wonder what the heck this chinese party theme was all about: Some months ago, an UNKNOWN soul over at demoparty.net renamed our party to "Year of the fire monkey" and we decided to tag along with the joke ;)

hehe ;) I was involved in that ;) Although I did not set that name but an admin, but it was set after I sent some update to the party page ;) Yay !!! So if not me, it would probably never be called like that! I put my hand to this! :))
I would like add a short personal statement here and step up for a demoscener who I recently got the chance to meet in person, Creonix.
After I have witnessed how much he enjoyed the party like everyone else and helped out wherever he could to support the party, I come to the conclusion that he is one of the most friendly and caring people you could possibly meet at a Demoparty.
A few months ago I was the first person to ban him from Nordlicht as a preventional measure but our team later voted for him to attend, for he had not done anything to us and it just felt utterly wrong to penalize him even with all the infos and warnings we had been given in advance because of some mishaps at another demoparty.
I truly hope, from the bottom of my heart, that people will reevaluate their opinion and views about our fellow demoscener Creonix, who might have been troublesome under the influence of alcohol at some point in recent history, but who is trying his very best to be a part of the scene and means no harm to anyone whatsoever. If you talk to him you will find he has a lot of interesting things to share.
So as far as Nordlicht goes, he has truly succeeded in showing us that he can do better and he will always be welcome at our doors for as long as he does not suddenly transform into a zombie or something .. because I'm afraid of zombies, you know :)
