none of the oldskool paint packages have similar UI as photoshop, therefore they are all flaming pieces of turd coming out of buffalos asses etc
I use paintbrush at least weekly at work :)

please STFU. This thread is potentially 100x more relevant/interesting than the fucking GIMP thread you started. srsly.

Does GrafX2 count? Or is that too fake-oldschool?
added on the 2016-06-17 13:17:55 by urs urs
what urs asked?
I would like to know what makes GrafX2 "fake" oldschool? For a more authentic experience, a 14" CRT display and 2-button mouse are recommended. And you may still be able to run the win32 version through HX-DOS or winedos. May need some patching on GrafX2 side, but I could do it if people *really* want it...
The only picture posted so far was made with help of photoshop...
...GrafX2 atleast emulates oldskool-pixeling (perfectly i wanna add!) and uses original resolutions, palette-restrictions, etc! (ok, havocs picture above aswell!)
PulkoMandy: our question raises from the Thread-Title! While now that i re-read it, GrafX2 absolutely IS an "oldschool paint package" ! (read it like "original software for oldschol platforms", mostly thanks to the first post by the thread-starter xeron himself!)
OK, before we get bogged down, I don't want to be too prescriptive in what is "acceptable" for this thread.

Personally, I just thought it would be cool to see some oldschool pixel art.

I find it more interesting if its done in original tools and hardware, but if its CLUT image done in a program that works like those old tools, I don't mind :-)

Damn, I was totally going to make this thread. I just hadn't gotten around to it yet.

I guess the next will be the "Show what you do in Textmode/Petscii/etc."-thread! :)
This said: nice stuff with TheDraw there, jmph!
ontopic: I am @work, but maybe i find some time this weekend to post some oldskool-pic of mine!
@havoc: Nice work, shame about the subject..

@jmph: Nice!

@hardy: Please do :-)

Hardy: If you make another serious demo for A1200 in 100% ASM I'll make picture for it with 100% 1992 tools and hardware (from the better brand, obviously ;)). Deal? :)

In the meantime, here's another 16col job for which I didn't employ the Photoboogiemanprogram but Dstar took the honour :P

(To be precise, the original Nordlicht logo was made by Dstar in (I suppose) Photoshop, and I repainted it by hand using only CrackArt using only the outline of the original logo)

Havoc: i didn´t mean to attack you or something!
I just talked about the thread and its rules in general!
To me there´s nothing wrong with using photoshop btw, even for oldschool-art...as normally conversions need some retouch anyway...in an oldschool-painter most likely! (Or GrafX2(-alikes) as they offer possibilities to save in correct format and work like in original programs!)

About posting a pic of mine: i just had to find out my oldschool-stuff seems to be gone with that one harddisk i lost some years ago...there should be some CDs somewhere with that stuff, but i can´t arse myself now to search for those! :/ (i should do so soonish though...before those CDs turn into confetti or sth)
jmph: Kelw, next make it adhere to the screen 2 color limits :)

And some stuff I made in 2013 while toying with a PETSCII editor for Windows.

@Marq: yeah, I decided halfway through I couldn't be bothered to do that. :P It was more of an experiment to see if I could paint something nice with the palette at all & get a feel for how the colors worked together. Don't worry, I *am* working on stuff for it that will display natively. ;)

Played with this in 2015, but never got it to a point to submit it somewhere, so I love to share in this thread.

Oh, made in Pyxel-Edit. So sort of semi-oldschool tool. ;)
