Guys and girls and so on, is there any good converting tool that can convert classic Amiga 4ch MODs to MP3s? I mean something that one can set a stereo panning value in it and that can do batch jobs. I'd like to convert a bigger amount of MODs at once.

XMPlay.

New protracker clone supports stereo panning %, rendering to wav output and precise playback, which XMPlay fails with some chiptunes if I remember right.
Of course you must then encode them to mp3.

XMPlay has a ProTracker mode which gets the most important ProTracker quirks right. Since it has the desired batch conversion funcationality, I'd try it first and then resort to other software for other cases that really need 100% PT-compatible playback. Also, there's xmp-delix for XMPlay which should get as accurate as it can get since it contains original Amiga play routines - you will have to add "mod" to the "priority file types" list for the plugin though so that it takes precedence over XMPlay's built-in MOD decoder though.

Remember to disable interpolation in XMPlay if you wanna convert chiptunes.

No, not every MOD is intended to be played without interpolation.

Or just use your better judgement regarding what sounds best and what the artist most likely intended :p

or check for E01 command in mods, if you have found it then just disable interpolation and render module

Thanks guys! xmplay is all what I needed. Very cool piece of software. Still can't find out how to use it for batch converting but I'm on the way.

Select WAV Writer or WAV Writer - Normalize as the output device.

...or Encoder - LAME for MP3, Encoder - OGGENC for Ogg, etc.

Set your output device to WAV Writer or LAME, cue up a playlist and hit play. The File writing section in Output options has useful stuff for file naming and placement.

Disabling interpolation is a hack that sounds noticably worse than a real Amiga. There are players that do a good job of simulating how the Amiga sounds, but they can be a bit arcane. UADE is one, maybe there are others which are more user friendly. XMPlay is great for XM, S3M, IT, but plays Amiga MODs quite different from what they originally sounded, both because of player inaccuracy and the interpolation issue (basically none of the settings sound like an Amiga).

It's not a music player. It's a tracker. And as already mentioned, there are already other solutions available as well (such as xmp-delix which is based on DeliPlayer).

No, VLC uses libmodplug which is old and horrible. It will play ProTracker MODs even worse than XMPlay does in standard mode.

Saga_Musix: My PT clone sure works fine as a PT .MOD replayer, though it lacks a playlist option... It still is one of the better PT MOD replayers - in both replayer and Amiga audio accuracy.

Yes, I am aware that you can use a tracker as a pure replayer too, but in the context of this thread as it fails the most crucial requirement.

I think that the most crucial requirement is audio accuracy and not the ability to convert a bunch of modules automatically (aka convert-this-playlist) regardless if they sound like a real Amiga.

Well, that's what a "good converting tool" must (most crucially) do to me.

Have you already checked if your MODs are included in SOAMC? It has two settings of stereo seperation.

I fixed that for you. In fact maybe you should turn the replay into a plug-in for foobar or something?

I realise that I was unclear, but my complaints about accuracy in XMPlay is in fact with MOD playback mode set to PT1. Off the top of my head, 23.4 impulse power by nao/spaceballs lacks the entire intro, and shorttune2 by omen/axend is completely out of tune, both when played back with XMPlay's PT1 mode. And there's still the interpolation issue where none of the settings sound right.
