demojournal livestream idea
category: general [glöplog]
I been ruminating the idea of hosting a monthly livestream.
Similar "shows" have been made in the past (there was the arts, and that thing with okkie and alex), i'm sure scenesat might have some sort of talkshow aswell now and again, but they mostly focused in radio format. i'm thinking it would be worth having it as a regular livestream where you can actually the demos getting played instead of audio only.
Not quite sure on the format yet, if it could just be live commentary over latest best demos of the month, trying to squeeze in an interview with a different scener each month and covering some of the news on the scene. Or if it would make sense to also have some folks in to show some live coding, drawing, modelling, composing or focus the talk on a specific topic (machine model, demo style, dont know).
Would be nice to get some constructive feedback on this idea. If it's worth trying out or not. It feels like quite a bit of work, but i think it could really be interesting, not only to hear what other sceners have to say about other demos but also as an outreach / teaching ground for new folks who want to ask questions which i can relay live to people getting interviewed.
Don't think i could pull this alone, so i would need some help with co-hosting (talking alone gets boring fast) and maybe on opening intro, graphic identity or jingle for the thing? So if anyone is willing to help me out on those departments send me a mail or add me on skype.
Let me know what you think.

I really do like the idea, although i am not sure of what help i could be for that project. I would like a video stream, (revision did already register a twitch channel and twitch personnell was interested to get more creative content featured on twitch) since audio is indeed pretty much covered with scenesat. Before thinking about any intros or jingles, i guess it would make sense to think about a concept, collect ideas and then judge if it is enough to make it interesting in the long run.
Some of my first thoughts were
It should differenciate itself from stuff you can have/consume/see on the internet without needing to tune into a show. a demoshow for example is something you could have simply by making a youtube playlist.
I like something like a demoscene studio and it seems to be doable to have video group chats, so connecting people should be easy. (Like the Cooptional-Podcast with TotalBiscuit..if you may know that) I guess there are more than enough topics to talk about.
It could feature different show formats like, livestreaming of smaller meetings or pre produced video stuff, like interviews or party reports.
The more i think about it, the harder i find it to find stuff that will make it different to what you can have without it. We have slengpung for demoparty still coverage. youtube pretty much has all demos as videos. partys mostly have livestreaming with commentary.
This will take a lot of thought not to rush into something that comes out as being redundand.
Hm.....

I tried to convice the ppl who did the revision announcement livestream years ago to make it a regular thing and would be happy to help out. Structure it a bit with a classic section, a how do you do bit, and a latest release section maybe?
yeah, i'm thinking something more like people talking before, along and after demos being played. so more like a live commentary and analysis, not just queuing demos in a playlist.
mantatronic: what would be in a classic section? showing classic demos? never really thought of that, but i guess showing a classic now and again when people mention it during commentary could be interesting. or while waiting for more people to show up on the chat before the show gets under way.
Any idea is worth trying once and this sounds like one of the better ones.
You can just have a revolving door of guests.

gargaj: yeah i thought of that, but would need atleast 2 per show (i think 3 people would be the ideal to have chatting) and it might get hard to get 2 new people every week, would be nice to have a few co-hosts on regular standby who sometimes show up and jump in on the chat if needed.
every week == every month
Well I'm happy to provide back up as someone to chat to, but currently in the process of moving back to ireland, might be next month before I can get setup with webcam broadband etc. Will see if I can catch you on irc for email address swapping.
This is really cool and something I would watch. It would take a lot of work and motivation to do it well and keep it going regularly so definitely would need help from others. Not sure how I could help at all but I would be willing to offer any assistance.
we had this idea to do 'Top Demo' last year, pretty much the same idea of showing cool stuff on a quarter-yearly basis, but more comedy involved. then again, quite a lot of effort and so little time :)
Making-Of-Commentary/Interviews while showing and analyzing demos and effects would be very nice, like they did it on the Mindcandy-DVDs. Its always interesting to learn about concepts and technical stuff behind prods.
mantratronic: im not on irc much these days, but my email is easy enough, it's my username @ gmail.com, skype id is also psenough. feel free to add me, just let me know your scene nick when you're adding so i know it's not random spammer of the week :)
maali: wouldnt want to make it too serious either, comedy always helps, just need to make sure it doesnt get too much inner jokes that will shone away new people from participating in the chat.
gaspode: yeah, that's a good reference to what i have in mind.

I'd be happy to come on the show every now and then as a guest. Maybe review some demos, talk about demo creating and maybe even share some party memories with people.
Any kind of "best new demos of the month" show with a bit of talk around it would be a great way to keep up to date (especially for everyone interested in the scene but not really involved). Looking forward to watching it at some point if I can't watch live.
Am I going to spend an hour or so listening to a bunch of non-native speakers who probably don't have much broadcasting or public speaking experience? Regardless of how knowledgeable they are? To be completely honest- probably not.
if it makes you feel any more interested we do have a little broadcasting and public speaking experience :p still trying to figure out the best way to potentialize the format, so comments and critics are welcome, don't knock it till you try it ;)
What havoc is saying is he wants Rog on the show.
that would be awesome :)
havoc: in the current state of the scene I welcome anyone trying to do anything constructive.
