Revision 2016 - 25th to 28th March - Saarbrücken, Germany
category: parties [glöplog]
AzzaroMWI, as someone who submitted to the photo compo in the past (just once), the preselection there leaves much to be desired. They get a lot of entries and I get that for time purposes they have a hard job cutting it down.
However I'd like to echo that honestly I think some not so great images may make it in, and while there's no proof*, it seems unlikely some of the remaining weren't better than at least one of those shown depending on the year.
* Since images that don't make it aren't released, which is still a good thing.
The only year I submitted something I felt I lost out in preselection to a cheesy photo of a llama taken with an iPhone (admittedly they have pretty good cameras these days) and some obvious photoshops with bad aliasing around cutouts.
I can't comment on the post-processing thing, as the rules do allow editing of images and it's likely hard to draw a line where something stops being from a photo and mostly constructed with Photoshop. Since the two winners were described as collages, iirc, perhaps that is the "loophole" you wish to chase after?
I think the entries were fine this year as even the winners seemed to be image composites, and we don't really want to forbid someone from being able to change the color balance/levels to make a photo just right.
Do note that the Modern Graphics compo rules state "no photos, no collages, no stock models or similar. " so even if you feel some of the entries didn't fit, they would violate the rules of the Modern Graphics compo you wish to put them into.

to the organisation team: DANKE!!!

The last spot in a compo is always a special (and very coveted) position.
Easy fix: End the compo after the second-to-last entry.
Easier fix: End every compo with this
THIS is more funny :)

NO (:
At least such an end-of-compo entry would make it possible to vote for the last real entry before the live voting was taken away. Happened too many time that it was gone too fast (why not let it stay open until the next compo needs it)
Revision 2016 was certainly an enjoyable and great party - it was good to be visiting Saarbrucken once again and nice to see the sceners there too.
The food provision was good, although it was a bit of a pain that the pizza guys this time were not also making pasta, despite having had this advertised on their menu.
I did enjoy the first ever waffle with cream, it was a bit messy to eat (but maybe that was just me) but enjoyable too :)
The liveacts were better than ever (big-ups to Knoeki, /KICK, Alkama and one or two others whose names I forget) - looking forward to seeing those guys go on to achieve success in due course :)
Thanks once again to the orgas too, who worked very hard to give us a good party - they certainly succeeded in doing this. If time allows then my wife and I plan to be back in 2017 :)

I'd like to get back to AzzaroMWI's mentioning of some photos in the photo compo being more modern graphics material.
I agree, in the winning photo you don't see what was actually taken on a camera or how it was rearranged or procssed. Same goes for serval others, i.e. that with the city.
I propose showing steps for those non-plain-photos, to see the actual photo(s) that were compiled to such a collage/graphic-like entry - If not releasing all the steps, at least release the untouched photo aswell, as the unmodified photo has to be submitted anyway. Why not show it to the audience?

I didn't live-vote this year but I noticed the same issue in the past (and also this year on other people's mobile phone screens). This issue definitely needs to be addressed.
Also, what dossi said.
Regarding end of compo: Just play Rob Is Jarig.
It was awesome! Thank you so much to everyone, from orgas (flawless) to attendance, for all being so great and smart and nice and talkative.
Thanks to all the coders that entered the live coding compo. THAT'S COURAGE! (or maybe you just understood that whatever you do up there, noone will ever dare make fun of you, everyone recognises it's difficult!).
To everyone that entered compos and made this party a demoparty :) And special kudos for that baffling pc 64k compo. Had me bug for an hour after, feeling shocked and strange.
The concerts and seminars were \o/ ! And it's always so great to catch the ones we missed on youtube (cant wait for the second stage videos too, they were HECTIC) !
And a huge thanks to Havoc for offering me this incredible spot to play my silly music :) I got so stressed, but the good one !
Finally, HUGE sorry to EvilBot for forcing him to delay the last compo block, and even more importantly for silencing your announcement. I couldnt hear it, it didnt pass on the stage "returns". Now dont you send your killer robots... Please... I... I wont do it ever again !
+ So sad, I'll never know what he had to say :)

@alkama
I just knew it was something along the lines of '... so no drama, here is alkama'

Just on the main stage, were that good

@alkama: hugs <3
Hmm... when did Oldschool MSX rules changed?
I'm a little confused now. A1200 68020 + Fastmem w/o FPU is now oldschool and allowed?
I had doubst about Curt Cool entry, but now I see I probably was wrong.

Although I had to leave at Sunday this year, I really enjoyed and loved Revision once again.
It was a bit sad that I didn't find the time to talk to all the people I would have loved to, but well...there is always another demoparty.
I've seen Alkama's liveset on youtube, but I'd love to know if there are also recordings of the liveset on the second stage especially the one from Ronny, H0ffman and lug00ber!

AceMan: I was asked if it was ok, and I tested it on a A500+fastmem config in WinUAE, and it worked. So if it in reality doesn't work on such a config, then you can blame me.

I have recordings of our set, Knoeki's set, the qualification rounds of the shader compo and I believe most of Bullet's set as well. All recorded directly from the DJ mixer with additional tracks for audience mics.
The ronny/hoffman/lug00ber set as well as the one I did for the shader qualification round will be available "soon", the other sets will be available when/if the recorded DJs approve (I don't publish other peoples' sets without permission).
Yay! Thanks for the info! Can't wait!

was the quality of the other entries such bad?
I'd almost be willing to bet half of the entries that didn't make it through preselection were macro shots of insects or something along those lines.
The rules do say "Try to be interesting, no plain snapshots." but beyond "Don't step outside your door, snap a photo, then walk back inside." this is kind of subjective. (Unless your door is the same one CCR looked out.)
@lug00ber. Oh nice! :)
By myself many thanks to the orgateam (special to styx, madame, havoc and mayor) and all people on party. It was amazing !!!

Photo booth pix will be available as soon as the "After the party" pages get online, I suppose?

As someone who hasn't been preselected for a couple of times in a row I can say for sure that is not the case. I guess I lack a good camera but I always kept my shots interesting. In the end I always respect the preselection, so I have no problem with failing to meet the right criteria. I shows that I need to improve even more :)

- any chance to squeeze the shower container into the main hall next year?
IANAP (I am not a plumber) but I don't think this is a good idea. Water and expensive gear doens't really mix, also there simply isn't any space left in the main hall.
Next easter will be three weeks later, so I'd expect it to be warm!
