Announcing: Meteoriks Awards 2016!

category: general [glöplog]
Below is my point of view as expressed to other jurors (not necessarily everybody's point of view) :

Please do not submit productions > 512b to Tinytros category.

Yes, 57% of jurors are German (in some cases 100% per category) but jury duty is promised to be fair and not chauvinist (ie : Pouet Top List logic).

The difference between low and high end is same as oldschool newschol : software dependencies and/or accelerated and/or helpers such as shaders are considered High-end.

Please submit more productions but do not wait until the last moment February 22nd and do not assume obvious choices were already submitted.

ahh.. So using the gpu on a raspberry = high end, while only using the cpu cores on Skylake = low end.
And: A500 demo abusing blitter and copper = high end, c2p only 060 demo = low end.

There's no need to have an opinion on that. :)
The category description clearly states "256 bytes or smaller", just like last year.

Everything larger goes into "high-end intro" or "low-end intro".

Anything with a CPU that has a 16 bit or smaller data bus and Amiga AGA machines and comparable architectures. See also here.

I'm a bit confused about the AGA machines.
Usually only OCS/ECS machines are considered oldskool (including the Revision 2015 rules in the link). AGA machines are 32-bit, not 16-bit.

Is AGA a typo, and should it be OCS/ECS? Or are AGA machines also included? In which case, are we talking about stock AGA only? Most AGA productions (all 2015 prods?) target 040/060-accelerated Amigas.

Basically the question is "which category does TBL get into"?

No need for that question though, as they didn't release anything last year :)

Who cares. TBL even win if they don't make a prod. :)

TBL are so arrogant they don't even need to be arrogant themselves!

512b intros of 2015 were both few and mostly for c64, thus it goes well into low end intro.
Might change next year, but this year considering 512b "not tiny" doesn´t make a big difference.

does ZX platforms needs ro be subdivided?

@Scali: AFAIK all classic custom chipsets (OCS - AGA) have a 16 bit wide data bus, although the 680x0s sport 32 bit registers and support 32 bit operations. As always with these hippie machines, they're quite ambiguous ;)
If you want to break down the classic Amigas into "newschool" and "oldschool" it would be the use of pipelined/superscalar CPUs (040/060) versus the non integrated FPU CPUs (000 - 030).

As for the Meteoriks category, I think they include the high end stuff as well, since the 060/AGA setup is now 20+ years old.

Well, I guess the same can be said for 386 and early 486 machines. The CPU and its data bus was 32-bit, but the ISA bus was still 16-bit.
So it's very arbitrary where one would draw the line of '16-bit' :)
