Trying to sort by Platform

category: general [glöplog]

I'd like to see a single listing of all Amiga demos that use both OCS/ECS and AGA in the Platform field, but selecting both of these platforms in the Prods section and trying to sort by Platform doesn't work. Is there a solution to this, please?

FWIW I think prods that are tagged as both OCS/ECS and AGA means that they are compatible with both, not that they use both. In other words they are non-AGA, but work with AGA. I imagine lots of prods tagged only with OCS/ECS also work with AGA and "should" be tagged with both, but I'm not sure how useful it is to tag both in the first place. Alas, I have no answer to your question.

I don't agree with that at all, otherwise almost ALL OCS/ECS prods post-AGA would display both platform symbols.

No, I believe that Amiga prods that display both these symbols work with OCS/ECS but are enhanced when they detect AGA hardware.

you're mistaken.

That's precisely why I don't think it's useful in the first place.

"would display"? Somehow automagically?

How about a special AGA port of an OCS demo. Maybe I should do one. Same demo, but in an AGA mode with more colors.

When a demo is tagged as both ECS/OCS and AGA it means that it would play in different ways depending on the platform, and those differences are intended by the coder and not just merely a result of different specs. For instante, Roots 2.0 will skip the first part of the demo if you run it on an Amiga 3000 (cause that part is AGA) but play both parts on A1200. Other demos could adapt somehow their effects when they run on a non-AGA machine.
The key is that the demo must detect itself the presence of AGA and, if not present, change to a "plan B" and show some different version of the demo intended for OCS/ECS machines.

Foebane & Ham : I get what you're saying. I just don't believe that people who have submitted prods here have necessarily been applying the tags in that way.

well, aside very few 93-94 demos, personally i don't know any "AGA enhanced" demo on amiga. there is no "extra aga features" in the ocs demos these days, or at least I'm not aware of any. therefore, i don't see the basis for your theory. if there are any in last 10 years, please share.

nowadays, some people select only OCS/ECS for their OCS releases (even if they were tested and working perfectly on AGA), while some people select both - OCS/ECS and AGA.

same way some people 63.9kb intro will just mark as "intro", while some of them will also select a "64k".

and it's okay. as long there is a database, and there is a fix me beautiful for the things that you didn't find correctly categorised.
