What 3D modeler for a project with pupils
category: general [glöplog]
I want some of my pupils (15yo) to create an Anamorphosis (see image). Since we'll explore the Maths behind 3D projection, I need a simple modeler that allows to enter points coordinates and faces definitions.
OpensCAD does the trick.
BUT we don't have openGL on school's pcs (slow, Windows XP, no os/web updates). Moreover a tool working without install would be best!
Any recommendations for such a 3D modeler?
Well what about http://freecadweb.org/ its like CATIA / Inventor or PTC Creo so later kids will be able to learn superfast pro-software...
You could write wavefront obj files which look similar and use any obj viewer.

Oh, well just get Firefox Portable--you should probably still be able to find some old XP-workable copies of newerish versions--and visit OpenJSCAD.org. It says its an "alpha", so hopefully it works well enough for you.by baah:

Thanks for the answers!
.obj seems to ask for normals, and it's far beyond the basic concepts I want to introduce.
Firefox portable might be the solution! :)

My soft DeadDeer gixes the opportunity to write various text file formats, in importer.
XP has OpenGL ... Also could test Blender
you dont have to define normals or colors or uvs in .obj if you dont want to.
google's sketchup is a pretty low-entry modeller. does require an install (maybe it has a portable version, dunno) and needs opengl though, but if your pc can run windowsXP i'm pretty sure it does opengl too. hell it can even do software emulation :P
are those pupils dilated? scnr

Why not install a proper graphics driver in the first place?!
How about a LiveCD, if you have the possibility to boot from other media?
eg LiveCD Graphics image with OpenBSD
