Oh, I wish I could vote for "Mona"!

it's funny, looking at the screenshots, one can conclude that the more colors the platform allows, the more monochrome the demos are...

Yep, and lots of black (very dark) backgrounds as well, especially on high-end. :-P

Hi

I was wondering who had submitted Abductee (42 thumbs) on our behalf to the competition, since Orbit (51 thumbs), Mayan (63 thumbs) and certainly Wolf128(76 thumbs) in 2014 all seemed to have more public appeal, but after checking my emails today I have the anwser to that question ;)

Thank you for giving an "honorable mention" to "BaudServer" (I LOLed and put that on the account of German texter's lack of English proficiency) on the beam screen nevertheless : I felt adding audio on other silent prods of the category might have been misleading since Abductee was the only one with audio irl and that took like 20-30% of the size. The Meteroiks.
The Meteoriks page here http://meteoriks.org/about states "Out of these nominations, a winner and possible honorable mentions will be picked." and not "Out of these nominations, a winner will be picked and honorable mentions will be said orally live
only." : therefore, is it fair to ask you to please mention this "honorable mention" on
the results page please http://meteoriks.org/winners (as advertised beforehand)

I'm glad ilmenit (TIL it meank "gentle" in German) won with Mona, considering the associated .nfo stated he had done this loosing his wife beloved wife Iza in the process : that alone was worth a mention. Also the feed gave me the occasion to view ex-Pain's magazine editor in chief and award juror in person ;)

Congratulations for the organizing ! (I don't know if next year we can do better than placing 5 out of 9 "Pouet Top Lists 2014" tiny intros next year but we will try !)
Thank you Urs !

You've addressed by email every issue and more, so that I feel confident enough in The Meteoriks' future. I'd be more than glad to be a juror next year in any other category than Tiny Intros. You can count me in !
Thumbs aren't everything. Pouet != Scene.
Amen to that Saga ;)
Awards != Scene, too ;)

Just a friendly reminder for the future: airport security might be interested in a pointy metal object. Put it in your checked baggage. (This might seem more obvious to people who fly more often.)

Nevertheless, I really hope my improvised demoscene outreach towards the staff worked!

Thanks to the team for organizing and thanks to the jurors and the public for giving us those shiny things :) I was sure public choice would go to Rift or Intrinsic Gravity. Anyway, the statue is stunning! Absolutely amazing design.

The nominee list also made me notice some prods I had missed and remember some that I had forgotten. And it made me realize how many great and different things had been happening in just one year. Thank you for that as well.

One suggestion: You disclosed the jurors at the ceremony (as announced), but I guess transparency would be served well by adding them to the list or something?

Great honor to be nominated, even greater to win the category. Eternal thanks to the people who made the event happen.

But those emblems on the prod pages :)? Could we get something... a bit nicer looking? The original scene.org statue sprites look still great, perhaps something similar to those?

Well, the icons were put up way before the public knew about the statue design. So maybe now that the design is out, the icon can be "fixed". :) Agree that it looks a bit... basic and boring.
So I vaguely remember someone mentioning during the awards ceremony that there are actually diplomas/certificates for nominees too, but no info about how we could get them or anything and I promptly forgot about them (and to ask).

Are those a thing?

We could've done the statue design but the current statue design wasn't as easy to convert. I'll talk to a pixel artist if it's at all possible.

Yes, I got my two certificates from D.Fox (IIRC), after asking urs where to get them. Urs as head of jury should know.

They are nicely designed, and (to a relative newbie like myself) surprisingly satisfying, even though I tell myself I do demos only for the fun of it. :-)

A nicely crafted RL item? I certainly take one of these =)

how about 2012 and 2013? the prods from 2012 & 2013 didn't get awards!
Oh, and do not say or put my name!
hi guys,

congratulations to all you people who won a meteoriks statue this year at revision !!!
i watched the event via live stream from home this year - „sofascening-wise“

guys- you did a great job - all of you. every award is well deserved.

to all who don´t know me: my name is „Motherfucking-ZBrush-Using-3D-Print-Cosmic“

DFox asked me if i could design the trophies - i felt honoured and so i did.

I´m not sure if you are aware of what you are actually holding in your hands:

The digital model was created by me via 3D sculpting tools. and then 3D-printed with
high-end !!! 3d wax printers.
not the shit they tell you about 3dprinting on twitter, facebook etc and what they want you
to buy on the interwebs.

the statue took 1 week ! to print at this resolution, quality and size.
professionals created a mold from this prototype and then it was cast in metal.

all these steps - from the 3d modeling to the casting and cleanup process - required a lot of
long term experienced people and there were a lot of professionals involved - trust me - my digital work
was just a part of it.

My profession is creating 3D models for rapid prototyping use in a wide range of appliance:
jewelry, toys, model making, industrial design, action figures, dildos, sextoys, custom biker accessories, molds
for pralines and so on ….

My daily struggle since 10 years is getting better and better in 3D sculpting, anatomy etc. for 3dprinting but most of all:
getting the people´s attention to open their minds towards this new technology and teaching them the required skills.

i want to be honest with you:

i was pissed watching the award show stream and there was NO word ´bout:

„guys, this is THE meteoriks - it was created with a lot of knowhow - a lot of experience - with the best 3D printing
technology available at the moment on this planet - and a strong team behind it. please take a closer look at
this piece. this is no usual „f*+@#! china crap“. i really missed this and also a passing mention like: „thank you buddies“

i know - it was mentioned at the meteoriks website - i have no idea what it means to organize a party and a award
show at this dimension. things can be forgotten - we are all human. but i would have been a nice gesture.

-> @dfox: i know i wasn´t present at the party but you still owe me a filet steak for this ;) :D this was no joke.

i´m just not sure if all of you are aware of whats this „piece of metal“ is all about. ok - the design maybe a matter
of taste but think about the technology and all the stuff behind it, and what is possible with this technology and compare it to the
3d printing quality you maybe have at home.

Feel free to call me an attention whore, commerce oriented, whatever you like … (this is what i actually am and when it comes
to filet steaks i can´t take a joke)

i struggle with the problem, telling people from all kinds of occupations that this techology is fucking HERE !!!

dumb people, clever people, college people, tech guys and so on. they all heard about it and „know everything about it“

but with no creative, experienced people creating content (quality content !! - not tingyverse bull…. etc.) for these machines - they
are useless. and no: 3d scanners - even high$$$$$$ ones don´t work without digital, handcraft postprocessing - trust me - i´ve tried them all :)

When i first got in contact with the demoscene in the 80ies i was certain: „These are the most clever people in the world“

Now - when i tell people: (even ! sceners !!!! ) „You know - this statue is 3dprinted“ i get reactions like „´r u kidding me ??“

c´mon guys !!!!! are you „normal“ people or „leet“ ?? are you interested in new techology or not ?
don´t get me wrong - i still love amigaaaaahhh - but there´s more than that.

ok ollie - calm down. i know - i can be a choleric person sometimes.

but please ! pretty please ! this would be cool and i will never ever talk about this again:

take this rendering: https://www.dropbox.com/s/t8nljwnqqide5l6/meteoriksrender.jpg?dl=0

place it on the meteoriks website header instead of these stupid apples, and please, to all the people who won such an award:
(i actually never saw the original metal piece - only my 3d model)

please, could you take some photos of the real world piece - post it here and give me the permission that i can use them to add
them to my portfolio.

and i will continue my crusade for 3d printing.

dfox - don´t forget my filet steak - (alles unter 500 gramm ist carpaccio)

please (at least some of you) start using this:

http://pixologic.com/sculptris/ and this: https://zortrax.com (no i´m not an agent of these companies)
but please open your mind - broaden your horizon and bring at least some of your visions to the real world and not only to the
computer screen.

thank you

ollie
Actually I got 2 of them in my trophy cabinet. \o/
Thank you guys.
And I really really mean that.
In 2012, when we released Coma Light 13, we all were sooo unhappy that there was no scene.org award in that year. These awards really help us coming over that.

I was just talking to Yazoo how awesome these trophies are (design- and quality-wise) and wondering how they are made. So thanks for the inside view. Havent thought about 3d printing for this kind of stuff, but finally it makes sense.

I unfortunately missed the award show by 1 hour. Thanks to "Deutsche Bahn"! Would have been awesome to watch the show live and receive the Meteoriks.

Bitbreaker is going to contact you for the reason of creating replicas. We think everyone of our 18 people team deserves a chance to get his hands on one of these.

And enjoy your filet steak...

cosmic:

We'll get that steak - that's a promise. I also have a Meteorik for you here and I'll bring it the next time we meet. Sorry about the lack of screen-time but I told everybody to whom I showed the trophies beforehand how much actual work was involved and tried to explain the printing process as well.

Maybe we can have a "behind the scenes / making of" page with a detailed explanation on the website at some point.

Love you man!
