Revision 2015 - 3rd to 6th April - Saarbrücken, Germany

category: parties [glöplog]
First time at Revision. First time in Germany since Breakpoint 2007, I think. Felt like something fresh, yet felt like coming home at the same time. It was crazy awesome to have people I hadn't met in almost 10 years come and say hi like we'd met just the day before. Friendly atmosphere, impressive stuff on the screen and the PA. Fun times. Kickass demoparties have helped me stay inspired and creative for all these years, and they don't come more kickass than this.

In addition to everything else, I have to thank the organizers for arranging the vegan food. Suffice to say that there's a portion of the crowd for whom it meant a lot, myself included.

Thank you all. I wish it were Easter already.

On the subject of showing awesome older demos; one of my fondest demoscene memories is from my first party, Breakpoint 2010. Having just set up my laptops and then the old demos started playing. Just sitting on a wobbly wooden bench admiring the scale, immersed in the sound that left my ears ringing for a week afterwards. Seeing the meticulous work put into things like Field Trip, it really impressed within me how amazing these demos actually are.

Every year since then I've taken the time to at least turn around in my chair and watch from my seat. Plus, seeing Rove on a big screen is never going to get old for me.

Personally I say that it's a great bit of fun even in an already overly cramped schedule. But lord knows I'm not exactly the heart of the scene, so see this as an outsiders perspective that just enjoys awesome demos on big screens.
First time at revision and germany.

Best compo I've ever seen live, top 3 parties I've visited.
It is a must to come on next year!

Thank you all.

Do you all really liked the vegan stand?

I loved the idea of vegetarian food. I cook vegetarian at home often...

but this one, wasn't my type... It didn't taste to me and I would like another vegetarian food stand in the next year, but with a different owner of the stand...

Somebody else thinking like this? Or do you vegan people all like it?
Because then I would step back and just eat pizza again ;)

Gaspode and everyone else asking for recordings/videos of things ...

Take your time ... no problem. But I thought the videos shown at the »media facade compo« must be already there. I was only surprised that they were not transferred to scene.org as the other entries from the other compos.

Interested to see how a non-scene pro music photographer would cover the world's biggest and best demoparty? Then check out the photos made by Niklas Gustavsson/Rockfoto.se in Saarbrucken last weekend here.

FeN, well it certainly wasn't the best vegan food there is, but for "festival food" it was good enough :) Although I did wish I'd brought some chili sauce from home.

About the vegan stand.
After going through the mandatory demoparty treats of Currywurst, Pizza and "Rührei am Morgen" (I usually don't eat that stuff frequently in RL) it was a hoot to add diversity.
Only was able to taste the main dish and it was a proper refreshing meal ... especially after having went through a true deadline-thriller.

In matters of food variety I somehow still miss the classic "Goulasch Kanone", a small stand providing tasty stews ;)

Small question to the STREAM TEAM, were the 2nd stage sets recorded? At least some of them were transmitted, it would be great to have audio versions of those! :D

Ok, after I finally woke up without the first thing to do being literally _and_ figuratively slipping into an organizer shirt (or that awesome hoodie), let's sum up.

Most of all, I want to say: Thank you. Thank you to everyone who visited Revision, to the other organizers and especially to all the people who submitted all those awesome releases this year. Seriously. I think I already told that on the compo studio but after going through some rough patches in my life lately and kinda losing my sense of purpose a bit you lot completely reinvigorated me and reminded me why I'm doing this demoporty organizing stuff for almost 20 years now. Thank you. Thanks for the epic 64k showdown, for that oldschool compo, the varied music compos, the awesome as ever paintover and shader coding events, and the huge amount of newbie productions in all the compos.

Because for me, the releases are still what the scene is about. Then the friendship. And then the party. Which was, uh, intense too on Saturday evening. I actually had to cancel my hangover on Sunday.

And yeah, I don't yet know what and with whom but something's definitely on.

While I am not a vegetarian, my wife is as she is a yogi (ashtanga teacher, among other things..), and she would be often preparing/cooking similar things as were offered on the vegan stand...

... On Friday I asked the owner if he plans to have any paneer dish (paneer is a sort of fresh curd cheese that needs to be prepared in a certain way)... Long story short, the guy actually prepared enough for one curry on Saturday, brought it to the stand on Sunday and cooked it for me - for 8 euro... This is insanity... So please, keep this stand! :) It was as the rest of the party - excellent!

... I didn't think I'll write anything in the thread (I'm a shy introvert :P ), but as I had to defend the Vegan stand, here is just a short "Thank you Revision Organisers" paragraph...

I was asked over the past 2 days "So how was it??" - I think the best way to describe it is - I feel empty inside since coming back - I want more more more... :) Not to forget all the great people I met, talked to, got inspired by, and whipped while they were party coding :P

So thank you all for this experience, it was a blast, see you next year!

The media facade compo is a bit of an odd one out in our compo process (I actually had to submit all the entries to Partymeister, and the entries themselves never went through our regular compo team...), so it got missed there. Plus, I want another go at denoising the camera footage while I'm at it.

An expertly organized party! From lip balmer in the paper bag to the great light shows during the jingles everything seemed well thought out. Live voting worked just fine and the internet connection in the hall wasn't that bad either.

The furnished toilet tunnel was hilarious (the kids enjoying JCO's game) and the showers were as refreshing as ever.

Just order warmer weather next time, ok?

Yes I would like to have these too, especially numtek's great set.

in my opinion, the vegan stand was pretty good. i'm very much into indian and thai food, of which the stand was sort of a blend, and while the spicyness was rather mild, it was still spiced very intensely and with much love - you could taste that it was not just a default supermarket "curry powder" spilled over the vegetables. also, it was excellent to be able to buy poppadums - the perfect inbetween-snack. so, i would love if the stand would remain.

As every year, thanks to all the organizer for such a fantastic event, again :) I used to organize a small party in Spain, and that was hard, I cannot imagine the amount of work you put in there :O

Special thanks to las for putting up with my nerves on Saturday, with the multiple versions of our 4k, you rock :D

To the guy who decided they would rotate my face for the tracked music compo intro video...
dam you!!!!
As part of the concept team: you're welcome.

Yours faithfully,
okkie & moqui.

PS: I'm pretty happy lug00ber didn't punch us for doing the same thing in the streaming music compo. ;)

About the food: The vegan stand wasn´t great, last years option was way better. This years one was overpriced for the rather poor quality (except the cracker, which was fine).

So it was resorting to the grill again with Pommes and Currywurst... or just visiting the town instead.

moqui: do you think he somehow got wind of the secret note we wrote about him? You know... about "the thing"?

Thank you so much for organizing this event. It was a blast as always, but you are getting a little bit better every year: better video, less delays, better food contractors - I really enjoyed the meals from the vegan booth for a change.

Whoever nominated "Trip to Breakpoint - The Game" for the Meteoriks, thank you for that! I was really honoured by the honourable mentioning. :-)

I'm really happy I could finally meet Jeenio/Accession in person to thank him for his soundtrack for the game. Thanks to Truck for his effort in finding that guy, who was operating cameras for the live stream all the time. I still owe you one!

And there goes the post party depression again... the first day back at work is always the worst...
