How to see PSX, DC, XBOX, GC demos?
category: general [glöplog]
Hello, people!
There are already in Pouet demos for all those new consoles (psx, psx2,
DreamCast, Xbox, Game Cube,...). But this consoles are protected or
use cartridges. So, the question is: How can I watch the demos for them?
Specially I would like to know if CD writting for psx/2, DC and Xbox is that
easy as to burn the demo, insert the CD/DVD and look at it?
There could be some documentation bout this in the FAQ.
Ok, without the possibility of using an emulator. Because they are of much more quality in the real hardware.

some you gotta use flashcarts, others you need a chip.. there should be info about these for the speciific console on some of their respective dev related homepages.. even for consoles where you need a permit to dev it's not that hard to get dev chips/flashcarts if you know someone developping for it... ask them where they got theirs =)
the absolute easiest way to see xbox-demos are to upload them directly (modded xbox'es often come with ftp-server software as default) and run it from the internal harddrive. i hear of people who burn demos/games etc. to dvd's and run it on the xbox but i cannot really understand why. :)
Dreamcast doesn't need a mod chip, just burn and run.
...and are there any emulators for these platforms? :)
Gargaj: not really.
... unless you were thinking like a nintendo emulator for xbox. There are quite a few of those.
for psx, just grab the ePSXe emulator. you can run psx .exe, .iso, cds ... in fact anything a psx can run ! :)
works a treat, very fast ... ( even got me interested to do psx demos, even if the platform is a bit old by now )

Alternative platforms are such a hassle and have no advantages...except giving the demomakers some sense of satisfaction blah blah.

well, my 7 gig harddrive is full as fuck (i have 4 games on it, a dogload of small movies, a dogload of emulators and roms and a dogload of mp3s) so i rather use burned dvds (i'm still to lazy to hook my xbox to my pc again and build in a bigger hd :))
How many megabytes are in a dogload?
Also the late spanish demogroup known as Chanka made a dreamcast emulator. And a pretty good one I must say... Haven't tried any demos though but they should run just fine. And nope, still doesn't run Rez with full graphics and at a proper speed :\

Gloom: same here. I never got around to upgrading the harddrive, which was a sure-fire way to cripple my revision of the xbox back when I grabbed it from the store. Nowadays there's ways to do it but hey... I usually stream audio and video over the network anyway... *shrug*
There's 2 gigs left on the thing right now. Plenty of space for a demo every now and then ;)

Same as Okkie, I mean :|
shane: a dogload can be between 400 megs and a gig
there's a pair of xbox emulators around, too. even if the demos i've tried with them crash on my pc :(
so answer could be... videos?

ozon has been shopping here!
that fine store is getting more and more popular these days :D
okkie: why on earth do you keep movies/music on the xbox? just use a xbmc-server (like ccxstream) and stream them off your computer via your local network (i presume you have one? :)
also; you really should put a new disc in your xbox :)

Yeah, superb comment! Fuck C64, fuck Amiga, fuck the rest! Program it on the PC and run it from a PC! Alternatives are so uncool! Let's do the same tentacle / cube shit all the time, same we do since the mid-80s!
Who needs alternatives. Life can be so easy.

In case you haven't noticed this stuff IS being programmed and viewed on the PC via emulators/videos! I'm suggest they save us the added hassle of having to load an emulator, capture a video etc.
shane: get a brain will yah
gloom: read my quote!!!
since i moved to amsterdam i've been to fucking lazy to hook up my xbox to my pc again... :)
