ABOUT SOUTH ASIA.

category: general [glöplog]
Radman: I wouldn't expect you americans to understand why i dislike the redcross.

But to put it simple:
Charity for us swedes who understands basic socialistic economy is to work, earn money, buy stuff. In usa that is not true, if you want to help the people in the bottom there you will have to donate your money somehow... However i've no idea how that should work out in a good way.

ps. Just watched the red cross own commercial they broadcasts on all the tv channels who allows commercial, plus SVT who doesn't allow commercial (hoho)... Full of dead babies floating around in water etc, wait a minute... Didn't you say.. that it was massmedia that was the only disgusting part here? I tend to dissagree, red cross has always used this kindof style to get people to loosen up and donate money - not thinking about how everyone feels for anything - if they get money they are happy.

You guys just talk and talk and talk. For once stefan makes sense, and then yall dess him!-

I have worked for the humanitarian aid agency ISRA. As the only one in THE WORLD they can gurantee that 95% of all income, ends up with poor people. UNlike redcorss where the number in reality is closer to 40% due to heavy administration. Most large scale oprations are money making machinery, and someone at the top makes A LOT of money. and those who people think they are giving money, get leftoevers. so it doesnt become to obvious that it is little but a money scam.
Yes they doo good things i agree. but they should be doing 55% more good things than they are.
With the amount of money they houl through the organisation, the leader could still drive 3 ferrari's if he so wished.

An humanitarian aid agency may never end up being a "firm" making money to invest.

I too think this disaster is horrible. But it is so false it makes me puke.

1. Why did noone pay attention to these poor people and their obvious problems before the tsunami?
(does people ahve to die on a grand scale before the west suddenly tyrn "good"?)
2.We help then rebuild what they had, or rather what they didnt have...then what?
3.Are we going to leave them alone then to sail their own seas?

What about africa. they wasnt hit by a tsunami i know, buyt they are in shit to their neck. And we havent given a shit for 100's of years.Yes we feed them with one hand, so noone can call it gencide. But we take with the other han.

If you have family that was hit by the disaster you should grief, or if you had freinds. If you dont. Feel sorry for the world, because false pitty sucks ass. And according to danish locals in pukhet the cleaning up is nearly finnished, and besides the sorrow, things are about restored.

As usual the words of the original post was malplaced, but reading this whole thread it makes sense. Grief if you have something to grief about.

People tend to become very emotional when events like 9/11 or disasters like this occur. But to put things into perspective, hunger claims 25.000 lives everyday, yet I don't see discussions about that on Pouet. If you want to donate money to help the victims of this disaster then that's perfectly ok, but don't judge people who don't. There are plenty of other causes which need donations just as badly as this one.

After filtering out most of the noise in this tread, *one* of the points megadeluxe seemd to have was to bash the Red Cross.

megadeluxe, Iblis: two figures have come up; only 40% usage for the needing of the collected money for Red Cross (heavy admin, etc.), and 95% for ISRA. Where have you gotten this information (numbers) and where can I check them up?

somehow I feel 40% is better than nothing though it's immoral to make money of people suffering.

Mri did you read my post. i worked for ISRA that is how i know that by fact. Check out any isra site for that.

International Islamic relief agency, or my branch Independant scandinavian relief agency

As for red cross, we know from frustrated amplyeed we met when we were out in the world doing a difference.
Their official numbers state something else, but you are most welcome to b elive what you want. Make no difference if you belive me or not. I only spend years in this.

Violator, it is a disaster that greed enter an area like aid. i dont care for other bussiness. Better than nothing is not good enbough for what people is taught is the best in the biz. None of the big ones are. The independant aid agencies mostly rely on volunteers, who give time instead of money.
Both of major value, because it means more money in the hands of those who need them.

Large = ineffective and expensive, expecially at the top levels
small = effective and inexpensive

This does not apply to business but that is my point excactly. This is not supposed to be a business. It is HUMANITARIAN AID. and that is what humanitarian aid agencies should rely on. Not haboring money.

Whoops they chnaged it since i left. it is only 93% now.

Iblis: Yes, I did read your post, and asked a followup questions, and you ansvered what you think and know, thank you.

I haven't had time to look into anything about this yet.
Although I haven't worked with any humanitary aid like this, as you have, I don't think I share your opinion that small is always better. If that was what you meant.
Here in my small hometown there is a couple of guys on their 10th year helping one (or a few, I don't know exactly) orphanage in Russia with food, clothes, etc. When they started 10 years ago, they drove there each weekend with their own cars packed with stuff. Later on they started using a big truck. They collect stuff here, and delivers it themself. Of course, it is very efficient and personal. But these guys can only handle this much. Russia has many, many similar orphanage in a really bad situation. This is just an example of a *very* small organisation.
In a big catastrophy, when thens of thousands of people are injured or need help, a small org. can't handle that. But a big one can, although the big one will probably have a bigger overhead, the job gets done, and that what's really count, isn't it?

You are welcome.

You got right to the core of it.

What those guys do is the right thing to do. Imagine what would happen if more people took their responsability as a human being serious like that.

new downside: donation-poker. can anyone beat the 500mio euro that the german is about to contribute? (and that's just the number next to what germans actually have donated)

i wonder why neither madonna or michael jackson or any of the other superstars started to see a chance to top their prestige with that. thumbs up for asa at this point.
