i don't think that a popular platform ever died in the demoscene (zx spectrum, c64, amiga, atari, pc and so on...). in the pc platform there is always a manufacturer who's going to step in and lead the market whatsoever. what bothers me is that so many years have passed and we haven't seen something more advanced than the pc platform (android is still linux making no difference), occulus rift seems promising but still is not widespread.

A lot of businesses build boxes as well. I have a reasonably high-spec work laptop, but under the desk is a beast of a tower PC.

I can't get it when some people maybe secretly dream the death of PCs because PCs must suck and are ugly and not as classy as mac or amiga. Even if mac or android or consoles or your cat kills PC, they will evolve into PCs, customizable, powerful, generic boxes for al the tasks and without the need for a brand, because there will be need. The nextgen consoles have PC hardware now. I am not gonna write code in Android even if there is external keyboard. It's not the most powerful shit out there.
