Looking for good DOS demos
category: general [glöplog]
I'm looking for some good DOS demos. What qualifies as "good" to me? Demos with 3d polygons, raytraced pics, good music, basically anything you'd see in an Amiga demo. The machine I'll be running these on is a 486SX2 at 50MHz, 4MB RAM, VGA, and Soundblaster Pro.
Now don't say Crystal Dream I or II, or Megademo, or Unreal, or Second Reality. I have all of those already and have watched them several times.

I recommend find the lists "Trixter's Mobylist" and/or his 'PC Demos Explained', on oldskool.org. They were listing DOS demos even in the days of those, but of course, some of the later ones you will need a pentium to watch, and some maybe also some form of GUS.
Amnesia by Renaissance deserves more recognition.
Well first of all pretty much all earlier orange demos (at least Project XYZ, x14, Television, Super Television...), and also

should be about the best you can get from that setup. Most pre-1995 demos sucked anyway :)

Solstice should run on this.
This is a good list of stuff that will work on your hardware.
Also Tao and Singularity by Satori.

http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=2937 meets your specs,
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=301 might work, too.
But 4MB is heavily constrained, most demos from later 90s eat up several MB more, and even many 386 boards could handle 16MB or more.
BTW, I guess the CPU is a DX type - the SX one was the neutered version without FPU.

^^ I also had a SX2/50 back in the days(tm), those were not that uncommon.
