Pouet screenshot size
category: general [glöplog]
Just added a screenshot for this prod:
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=15165
Since that was a textmode bbstro, Pouet's 400x300 screenshot limit makes chars barely readable.
Maybe 2015 is a good time to increase that limit?
Just asking... don't blame me.

Why not?
So, can we do that? Disk storage can be an issue?
Yeah I think we can do that. I mean blame you :p
But it sounds reasonable to increase the limit, agreed.

Mandatory Demozoo plug. ;)
(At times I accidentally uploaded x MB of raw bmp files, because I forgot to run a batch through mogrify first)

There'd be auto-conversion, I just have to weigh up the pros and cons first.
From what I can tell, there's auto conversion for that at dz too, but eventually it's gonna be an issue to have so many high-res production galleries hosted. ;)
p01 was saying something about the imgur api on the shadertoy thread. don't know if it has any limits, but guess it could be an option worth analysing.
Quote:
The Imgur API uses a credit allocation system to ensure fair distribution of capacity. Each application can allow approximately 1,250 uploads per day or approximately 12,500 requests per day. If the daily limit is hit five times in a month, then the app will be blocked for the rest of the month. The remaining credit limit will be shown with each requests response in the X-RateLimit-ClientRemaining HTTP header.
I can upload bigger/higher resolution screenshots at demozoo.. would be cool if this can also be at pouet.. (Note to Gargaj: restore/fix my account to normal again thank you..)

If you find you're being rate limited, and your app is completely free (and without ads), then you can submit a request to be white-listed. We ask that you simply fill out this form and we'll let you know if you qualify.
then again, if imgur would suddenly die, the whole database would be missing the high quality gfx, so, maybe not worth it. or atleast store a <64kb version locally, and higher quality versions on imgur?
Might as well import from DZ then, where a lot of screen content already is AND you don't have to deal with a faceless company at the other end that might change their "free stuff" policy at any given moment.
How about (in the mean time) increasing the resolution but mantaining the same kb limit?
Would solve my original use case.

I'm sure someone noticed, but I'm going to say it anyway: The image linked at the top in question is not 400x300. It's 320x200. I don't know that the difference will help you much, but you're not even using all the space allowed.
Yep, I know. The original image was 640x400. Halving the resolution makes the font barely readable, but better than 400x300 IMHO.
Some prods have a screenshot smaller than 400x300, so it's not like all the screenshots would need to be updated. Bumping the maximum resolution to 640x480 or similar shouldn't hurt. The maximum file size could remain the same; 64kb ought to be enough for everyone.
Are there any problem with the layout of the prod page that make such change tricky?

I think the IMGUR approach is not good for pouet as the screenshots are not "procedural" like on shadertoy and they could not be easily restored if something happened.
I'm definitely opposed to having screenshots larger than 400x300 on the prod page layout itself. The demozoo system is fine, but really I don't see much of a point overall. After all I just see the prod page pictures as visual reminders of what the prod looks like.
My initial idea was keep the page screenshot at 400x300 and then allow click-to-zoom-in.
Your screenshot would probably be more readable if you turned on resampling/anti-aliasing. Also try using an integer multiple of the original size (textmode / 2 = 360x200 usually.)
...PLUS A NICE CRT OVERLAY! \:D/
I was just about to say "someone get rez in here!" but alas, it's you!
CRT overlay is always good, as is scrolling, which is forever. So I propose these two too.
