What would make the best demo?
category: residue [glöplog]
Dear Sceners,
we wish you all an happy new year.
To make it really happy,
we are looking to get what would be the features and requirements of the best demo ever.
This is a serious question and it's aimed at both newskoolers and oldskoolers.
Please state in your answer of which nature you are, e.g Newskool / Oldskool.
We are working hard for a few years with the best artists of the oldskool era to make the gfx for the ultimate demo (at present more than 50 different 1280x791px pictures have been made yet) and now we need your contribution and skills to get ideas about code / effects and music.
We need also to get a few new ideas to make a few more pictures for the best demo ever. This is not a slideshow, this is a demo we make but of a very special kind: it's a story demo answering all the questions you may have about what is the demoscene and we garantee you'll be surprised about the outcome. At present the most popular demomakers and groups from the 80' and 90' are contributing. Please note that plateform will be Windows / Linux / Mac x86/x64 intel based.
So feel free to answer that question now: What would make the best demo?
Regards.

I think you should really consider using a lot of Glow effects and Ribbons, Chicks dig that stuff :)
music? good tune really inspires.
Oh and Valves, Lots of Valves.
Should have a lot of zeros and ones! ;)
This is a serious answer!
Demos are about code forming graphics accompanied by painted graphics and fitting music plus a coherent design and concept.
Oldskool = bring the machine to its absolute limit codewise and let it look and sound good at the same time.
Newskool = make the best out of your concept!
The most important thing is let it come with style, it must be cool! ;)
If you come up with sth fresh and present it the coolest way there is you already won!
Also it´s always good if you have fun and enjoy making it...the love you put into it will make it even better than you expected yourself!
Don´t put any Deadlines...it´s done when it´s done! ;)
This all said: There´s no such thing as a "best demo"...you keep working on ideas and make some prods out of some of those ideas...some get bad in the end, some are ok, and a few will get really good.
In the end everyone watching demos has an own taste, same as with music, so some will like a demo, others maybe not. Thats why there cant be any magic formula for the "best demo"! ;)
I am both btw...oldskooler from C=64 and Amiga and nowadays newskooler doing 4ks on Windows-PCs. (I had a long long break from the scene inbetween, thats how you can get both!)

Making demos is a state of mind!
The way is the reward!
The Release is just a bonus!

Finally, we can lay those questions to rest!
As for what would make the best demo; it of course needs swimming, butt walking and rainbow stars puking horses and a picture of a horse on a burning cross (possibly with a fellow group mate included) and a loud gabber soundtrack.
Why not send those most popular demomakers and groups who are contributing to this demo of demos to tell us what they can code, instead of creating an account and addressing sceners like you would a complete stranger in a formal letter?
It's ...pretty relevant to have people who can code "what you should make the best demo out of". Also, you're sharing nothing that we can work with. Who are you?
Claiming it's a seriously phrased question doesn't make it so. I call it a question from ignorance.

Where do you draw the line?
The answer to what is newskool and oldskool is of course just as firmly and clearly defined as what the best demo ever is.
no matter how deranged the proposition, it will find a serious answer on pouet

and a loud gabber soundtrack.
This. You don't get to the #1 spot without this.

To be honest, gabber doesn't cut it anymore. Might have been good enough for 2014, but in 2015 I believe that bar has been raised to speedcore or breakcore.

Challenge accepted!
Definitely the best demo ever (newskool and oldskool) would have babies!

interesting use of transparency?
must contain amiga-boing-ball?
must contain funny/inspiring/cool greetings part?
music must be properly synced?
post process things to death?
must have enough triangles to require GTX Titan 6GB?
could contain time travel of some sorts?
i really don't know. make a demo about it?
oh...waaait...

Is this one of magics failed interview attempts?
The spelling / grammar is too good for that.
I'm sure the end result, if anything will ever come out, will be fucking epic.
Speedcore Baby Megademo
You need GLENZ VECTORS and raytraced BALLS OVER CHECKERBOARD of course!
you need a flash on every snaredrum.
(btw kusma made a great tool to help you put a flash on every snaredrum)

or every clap, if you decide to go with the gabber soundtrack.
And cubes ... lots of cubes!
