SceneID 3.0
category: general [glöplog]
It might; the big question usually with these fields is whether they're interesting on a SceneID level, or a Pouet level, or not at all, i.e. if it's stored, where should it be stored?
Actually let me elaborate on the reasoning a bit.
My idea for the new iteration of SceneID was as follows:
- We already have this service which we can't (shouldn't) really get rid of since it's carrying some pretty large portals.
- The core protocol is outdated and reeks of security problems.
- There was no effective captcha mechanism so the current userbase is full with spam.
- Some of the previous SceneID db was extremely ad-hoc (e.g. providing birthdate on registration just sounds like a bad idea).
So the idea was that this new 3.0 version is both consistent (hence the email re-reg) and a lot more stripped down. Once it solidified, we can grow it organically.

Ok. I personally find those interesting enough, to get some more info/frame of reference on users, see what they've been up to/fetch an email address quicker, etc.

i would propose on a SceneID level with the option to change it both globally (SceneID) and locally (Pouet.net, demoparty.net, etc.). For instance i signed in at the demoparty.net for the first time and noticed there was a field named website which in my case after signing with SceneID was completely blank and there seems to be no way in changing these data since they were inherited from SceneID. If, for example, bitfellas used SceneID as well, there is a same field requiring the same data there as well.
damn, minimum 3 character handle restriction. Mine is too short ;-(
That's what she said.
Huhuh, he said "handle".
Well, I managed to lock me out of my original account that had an ancient disposible email account assigned to it and the domain is long gone.
Sent a message via the contact form with this temporary to get it back on track ... me wants my glöps back :_[

btw, france is cheating that map with their colonial immigrants ;)
Hey wait, this map isn't really nice toward 3LN.
It's not the size of the handle that matter.
ps: plus, some handle can get bigger than others.
ps2: Tron, well played.

Pouet session lengths seem to be short now. Bummer. Anything Pouet-side that could keep that alive longer like we used to have seeing as it's no longer a hack to do so?
No, the session system was just migrated server-side yesterday, which trashed all login cookies.
Thanks. Question retracted.
We moved the session handling from PHP's default file-based system to Redis, because the file I/O was starting to hurt. That obviously meant we reset all existing sessions.
Tron: So then what is Hungary doing?
eating too much paprikaskrumpli
@metoikos it's a politics thing. if you join magyar garda your handle increases by 3 extra cm for free.
As a Frenchie in Hungary I'm starting to feel inadequate.
"Your previous username doesn't fit this new restriction; please provide a version that fits this new format." = suck my donkey balls
@thisnewsceneidsu , you do know that the display name on Pouet and within the SceneID system are independent, right? The username is only for login purposes, you can set within both what you actually want displayed after you've logged in.
Then again, I don't see any good reason for not allowing 1-letter and 2-letter user names. It's a pretty arbitrary limit.
0ln me beautiful!
I like this concept. Waiting for demoscene.org's SceneID API key to be sent from Gargaj.
