I am starting to hate demo making. Or I've hated it for a very long time, it's just that recently I realized how stupid it really is to demo make. I'll go make games and be rich now.

It creates winners and loosers like most other competition out there in the real world. Noby wants to be a looser, but they still compete. Because they want something magical to happen by the low-percent winners chance they got.

You dont want to create a demo to win a compo. You want to create it so that others can enjoy the shit that you make. Release it at a demo-compo anyway for others to see it, and by the time it's handed over, someone else will rank your shit.

Shit or not is up to the viewer to decide, not what everyone else like or how high its ranked in a compo.

People always enjoy the things that they enjoy. Tastes are personal. Ranks are irrelevant.

Let me just point out a parallel to illustrate this: I guess most demosceners would agree that graffiti is art. Yet for many people graffiti is just an act of vandalism. They don't see the beauty of graffiti. I can also tell you about another incident: When I was doing my alternative service there was a discussion about killer games (such as Quake, Mortal Kombat etc.). An employee of the Red Cross said he would like the government to introduce a law that bans killer games. I asked him why, and he said: "I ask you a question back: What sense do killer games have?" (Welchen Sinn haben diese Spiele?) With this line of reasoning you could argue that anything you don't understand should be banned. These simple-minded people have no sense of art and beauty.

I don't care about most shit you posted but graffiti had been considered art for ages and even the hacky shit banksy does nowadays is heralded as brilliant.

I think the "people" in the title of this thread are meant to be "people like us, geeks, artists, coders" and not "normal people". Otherwise, it would not make sense to make them aware of the demoscene (or graffiti, btw).
