That old hurting stereotype of geeks being dirty, not taking care of themselves, without girlfriends is not true. Everyone is quite normal. In the demoscene. At work. I am the one standing out. It bothers me sometimes. A bit.. but I wonder.
I am not saying they shouldn't. If it's best for you and you like doing it then why not?
But why that stereotype ever existed. I beg you, I show friends demos of great coders and they say "Yeah right, but that must not have a girlfriend". That's the stupid reaction. Sometimes not as a joke, but jealousy. But I know these person. I know they have or had many girlfriends.
Hell, the majority of demosceners are preety normal to me. Now, if some have peculiar outlooks, leave a beard or sometimes act weird, I think it's geek culture. I hate bing bang theory. They change outfit every friggin episode (you can notice it this time because the outfits are always extreme).
I don't find it good or bad to be normal or not. I just find it a social norms and there is a inner and external pressure to those who don't. I am all open with that. But sometimes I punish myself, thinking about it. Why am I still so different, even when meeting people in a demoparty? And why do I ask this question? Because things are considered abnormal, and even if nobody tells you, you notice there is something different with you. But it's not bad. It's different. I am fighting with myself. I am a good guy. I know other people who disregard social norms in an additional way. They have high self-esteem but say fuck you to social norms and they might act arrogant. Because I talk about disregarding social norms, I am not a bad guy and usually will not act badly against people. Unless they consider some attitude awkward even if it was not my intention to harm.
Things are like they are. Some people differ and are bothered by that, but yet they can't change. Others are natural with modern social norms. And others might not be so natural but still manage to get socially motivated to change even if they are not always themselves.
I have admitted who I am. Now, sorry for writing this here, I didn't want to open another thread. If you continue with pictures, I don't mind.

Even most programmers are, despite stereotypes. I am not talking about gamers, it's easy to play a game for everyone. Even the higher ranks are fine. Is the social norms shame pulling most of us like a magnet but fails to pull myself?
