Wouldn't that be "MNG"?
Animated PNG and MNG are two different formats (the former is based on PNG, the latter is a whole new format on its own). Yes, they use the same underlying compression algorithm, but the wrappers are different (and MNG can use JPEG as well).

MNG is the "official" format by the png group but mozilla doesnt like it because its not backwards compatible (browsers without apng support will still be able to show the first frame as static image) and scrapped support for it in Firefox 1.x.
Hence its even less popular than apng.

I only see a still image with google chrome...
Opera ver12.17 supports Animated PNG, but newer Opera needs Addon to display&animate APNG.
