Any TANDY related Scene (GFX/SFX/DAC) ?

category: general [glöplog]
Is there any TANDY related Demoscene stuff ?

GFX - Supporting CGA GFX using 16colors at the same time (320x200/640x200)
SFX - Supporting the Three-Chanel PC-Beepser Sound
DAC - Supporting the DAC

Thx
Doc

expecting to get a TANDY-Computer later the is year!
Don't think there's any pre 286 stuff except some things trixter did on the XT.
Would be very nice to see something though, especially with a well crafted tune for the tandy 3 voice.

Here is some old, but cool Coco 3 stuff from Sock Master.

I thought the same, I was wondering where CGA came from (I had a Dragon 32 at one time, and remember it being able to run some Tandy software, probably from CoCo 1).

Tonyrocks: cool stuff on that page regardless :)

introJR will work on a Tandy (I think) but every other line will be blank due to the video mode I hacked together. I did not use the hardware video interrupt so it should work but I've never tested it.

Tantro is an older effort which was a party production (cameo by Necros though!)

4.77MHz was a nice prod when I ran the 8086 compo eleventy thousand years ago: Is a slideshow, but has 3-voice music, or Adlib, or both if you put an Adlib in a Tandy (sounds nice). Slideshow uses 320x200x16.

DoWhackaDo is supposed to use the Tandy DAC but I've never tried it on that configuration. It would require a Tandy with a VGA card in it...

There are a few early prods that will produce early sound through the speaker only... atom and nope come to mind.

If you're getting a Tandy with a DAC (TL/RL/SL) then be sure to run tantracker as it is a well-written mod/s3m player for the system. Works well, and has an 8086 version too that will function at a lower samplerate.

8088 Corruption you know about, which might run on a Tandy if you put a sound blaster in it, although you can also run the 8088flex binary with a nosound option (as well as a mono option if you like pain). Rumor has it there will be something 8088-related at @party this year.

Nice, guess it was to be expected that there'd have been pcjr work done.

hi and thx! there are over 700games that support-randy gfx, more then 400 games to support the three-voice and about 80 games supporting the dad...and only 3-4 demos that support tandy ? this is a pity :-(
sorry, dac not dad (shitty mac) :-)
Tandy heydey was before PC demoscene took off, so not surprising...

does the new 8088-demo run on a tandy ?
ui! 20MB that's far too much, I expected this thing fear smaller then a 720K disk.
Considering that would violate the laws of physics, you were doomed to be disappointed.

I actually copied 26 disks of arj files, removed almost everything from 40MB disks on ALT 286 (ok not XT but) to see this. It was big bad totally worth it.

Working on it. Look for me at Revision next year (if Revision will allow a 1981 IBM PC in the oldskool category).

As I recall the rules there was just a 16bit bus limit, I was contemplating bringing a 386 sx

1981 PC is "odd" to oldskool sceners; it has an 8-bit bus, but CPU is 16-bit (accumulator and all registers are 16-bit). It doesn't fit cleanly into either 8-bit or 16-bit compos, so it tends to get excluded from both :-/

Considering that it's quite arguably slower than a C64, I feel it should be allowed, and as long as the rules are the same as last year, it should.

Slower than C64? Yes:

Memory access: 6502 1 cycle, 8088 4 cycles
Opcode length: 6502 1-2 bytes, 8088 1-4 bytes

Yes, 8088 runs at 4.77MHz, but because of memory access time it is comparable to a ~1.2MHz 6502.

@Trixter: Considering the Amiga 500 is allowed in the Oldskool Compo at Revision, I'd be surprised if a 8086/286 class machine wouldn't be.
