Thanks for an again awesome party.
Dear orgas, thanks again for another great party experience! I can only go to two parties per year, and I love you for helping to make these weekends so fun and truly memorable. :)
Friday night I was surprised to see how many vacant places there still were at the tables, and feared that fewer visitors would attend. But on Saturday it looked like last year, so maybe people just arrived later than usual?
Anyway, it will be hard to go back to work tomorrow. So many impressions to process, demo effects to think about, ...

We added some tables this year, it probably looked less crowded because of that.
Back home. Die Jungs und mädles von den Abenteuerhallen haben für irgendwen kronkorken ggesammelt für sein 'pixelbild'. Leider hat es mit der Übergabe nicht geklappt. Fühlt sich jemand angesprochen?
Thanks for a great party, it was great seeing people again and catching up. I am now officially broken.
Things did end on a sad note, since my wallet has decided to take a hike. I tend to lose shit all the time, but usually it magically appears at the infodesk. Not this time :( Thanks everybody who helped in the search for it. It wasn't for lack of effort that it wasn't found :)
Just in case anybody finds something strange in their luggage: it's a tyvek paper wallet with the kind of abstract design on it that I couldn't properly describe to people. It's this one:

Party was good indeed!
Thankings to everybody who was at evoke this year. What a great time we've had.
Evoke never fails to deliver. Hat off to the organizers.
Thanks for the awesome party!
Maybe next year some huge metal fans would be a nice touch? Maybe even bigger industrial fans, I like those. Besides the heat and my air matress vent which died it was truly inspirational. We found an amazing pizza place as well in Kalk : Pizzeria Il Futuro, I can warmly recommend them!
Thanks for all the stories, releases, booze and laughs :)

Maybe huge Amiga fans will be enough?
Once again, thank you very much for this great party, I enjoyed it a lot.
I have given most feedback directly to the organizers already, but here are my key points. Good stuff first:
- Very responsive, hard-working and caring organizing team
- Very good bar service / selection of soft drinks
- Excellent Video and PA setup
- A very good mix of young blood / newcomers and old farts when it comes to visitors
Things I liked less:
- Artsy stuff like the oscilloscope thingy should be done in the afternoon, when people are open-minded and relaxed. After the demo compos people want to dance. A lot of people missed the opportunity to dance after the demo compos (and did not want to wait until 4 in the morning for lug00ber's set for doing that)
- If there a screw-ups in compos, audio announcements help to clear up confusion, much better than "let's have the visitors figure it out what's happening here".
- The (non-enforced and ignored) announced ban on using eletronic cigarettes inside was a bad idea. Electronic cigarettes are not a health risk to anyone around, don't emit smoke, don't stink, and don't set of fire alarms. Any potential motivation along the lines "ha, let's make it unpleasant for those who enjoy nicotine, because we can!" does not suit the spirit. eCigarettes are a nice way for non-smokers and smokers no longer being a matter of conflict.
- I know that "take care of your food yourself" is a very old tradition at Evoke. I still am a lazy ass and like the Pizzawave-Feature other parties of that size have. It's built-in in Partymeister, why not use it?
- Yes, getting a WLAN of this size to run in a stable fashion is a challenge, every demoparty network organizers knows that. Being a network guy, I still think that the best solution is to strongly announce in beforehand that WLAN is only meant for mobile devices, and that every device that has an option for an Ethernet cable being plugged in should use such a cable.

Yes, so Evoke is over and it was a great party once again! Thanks to all the Orgas and Visitors for making it a blast time after time.
I almost went crazy as well because my jacket (including my keys) and bluetooth speaker were gone this morning but luckily the usual demoparty-law applied and it all turned up in the end (big thanks to Jix who managed to find some of it).

Uhm.. the reason I totally ignored that announcement was I didnt notice it at all. Although I share my opinion with scamp about eCigs i would have respected the wishes of the Orgateam and stuck to vaping outdoors. Sorry if it seemed like giving a shit and anybody was offended by it.The (non-enforced and ignored) announced ban on using eletronic cigarettes inside was a bad idea. scamp: i agree with most of your points.
but:
as for the e-cig ban, it's for a very pragmatic reason: if we spot some smoke/vapour, we don't want to have to go and check whether it's smoke or vapour. plus, some visitors might also visually mistake vapour for smoke and think "oh, it's apparently ok to smoke here".
so, even as a dedicated e-cig smoker, i think this ban really makes sense and is not that hard to follow.

Slightly OT:
After Scamp's comment about internet, I just had a brainwave . . . so a lot of folks leave wifi active on their phones even when they're not using it. This saturates the spectrum even when the phones aren't connected because they're constantly scanning, and ruins connectivity for everyone else.
Solution: public information slide at all parties reminding people to turn their wifi off when they're not using it. Also, this saves them wasting their battery life, so everyone wins.
Interesting compos, but yeah, announcements of approximate delay lengths would be good. We were all keeling over at klubi during the last marathon seventeen-minute insane demo. It was impressive, but I know I'll have to rewatch it when I can keep my eyes open . . . . Wow it was easier watching compos over here from North American, when I get to do them earlier in the evening. ( :

Thats no problem (also scanning is passive). The limiting factor is the number of active clients the AP is able to handle at once, frequency planning, directional antennas, AP handover, ... the Network team sure did thier best given the available hardware. If somebody is looking for a Evoke-Christmas present: send over an Xirrus Access Point. :)
Great evoke, thank you.
I agree on what scamp said, especially the food part, those pizza waves are live saving.
Rumors say that you can use eCigs without any visible vapor.
Oh and I wouldn't be too sure about the smoke detectors, often some of the optical ones also react to dust etc.

dipswitch: That's only very theoretically a pragmatic point. When was the last time you have seen someone smoking inside the hall? Also, especially at Evoke with the view from the bridge, you can not mistake the two. Someone smoking a cigarette will have smoke moving up constantly for 7 minutes. Someone taking a puff from a ecig will give a tiny cloud of steam in front of them, which disappears after a second and doesn't move up. I understand that whoever came up with the idea THOUGHT it would be pragmatic, but it actually wasn't. Pragmatism in this case is: "If it doesn't bother anyone, don't regulate it".
Funny how adding the task of checking out smoke evaporations coming from the crowd to the organizer checklist would seem like a useful solution.
Not everybody is as keen on the smells of vaporizers and despite being considerably more clean in their emissions, second hand "smoke" still contains nicotine. As irrational as that may seem, it's definitely worth considering. It must've sucked while it was raining though.

Shifter: Be honest - have you noticed me using my ecig directly the row behind you during the demo compo?

Yesterday.
What an absolute fantastic party.
+ getting the demo finished in time and the rest of poo-brain being excellent help getting those last parts done
+ Peach liquor
+ laying in front of the screen to watch alt compo
+ drinking so much that I can barely remember the last night
+ getting 3rd place in the alt compo. \o/ thank ya'll for voting!
+ WURST!
+ icecream on friday with Topy, T$ and someone else whose name I've forgotten again
+ the bronze Twilight Sparkle statue lug00ber gave me. :D fucking awesome <3
+ showers were actually pretty nice apart from having to hold the shower head myself because it was somehow broken
+ the skate hall was a great source of laughter and entertainment
+ being able to get a car ride back at the last minute so I didn't have to train around hungover.
- having some property taken from me during the compos. I was literally crying because I never expected that to happen at a demoparty. (it was returned the next day though and allegedly an accident, so sorry for the drama i caused). Also thanks to everyone who shared compassion and tried to help me out (:
- drinking so much on saturday night that I still am sorta hungover now.
- missing most of the compos because i was too busy socializing
As always, I'm quite sure I've forgotten to mention someone and/or something, especially this time because I boozed more (with not enough water) than I should've (:
Thank you all for making this party one of the best ones of my recent years. And apologies if I was being a hassle for anyone. I vaguely remember pissing someone off and being pushed out of the way, but I can't remember any context, sorry :(
