Paid remote entries?
Quote:
If you bought a regular ticket and want to buy an oldskool ticket, then just go ahead and buy the oldskool ticket (but don't pay for it yet). Drop me a line at abyss at assembly dot org and I'll make the new oldskool ticket free and we'll figure out a wa to refund you for the difference between the ticket prices.
Thanks Jussi and team, that's also an excellent feature for the people releasing for the first day compos (like realwild), allowing to actually spend thursday/friday at work without bothering anyone to upload your stuff.

(was quoting this actually)

We are now accepting remote entries to Realtime compos (e.g. demo, 4k, 1k, real wild). You need to buy a ticket (oldskool entry ticket 20€) to be eligible to participate from https://tickets.assembly.org.
The remote entries are meant to also let anyone from anywhere on the planet to participate on the realtime compos like the demo compo. Given the late notice, perhaps not that many remote entries yet this year, but hope it will become a viable alternative for those that can't travel for some reason.
Abyss: Are entry tickets also require when submitting entries via a trusted person ? IINM it wasn't required before.
in return i would of course expect those entries to be able to actually win prizes (and money) which many parties dont do for remotes.
Quote:
Source.ASSEMBLY Organizing will pay the prizes to the trusted person and we make no guarantees after that. So make sure you select trustworthy individual.
Checking previous versions of the site, remote entries submitted via trusted person have been entitled to prizes ( and money ) for the past 8+ years.
Would wanted to go but not really have money atm, maybe next year

Is it okay to use Teosto/GEMA/Whatever-licensed music? I remember it being prohibited some years back, but maybe there's a license now since I didn't find anything related to that on the compo rules?
Afaik traditionally it's been so, that composers registered with a copyright society (eg. Teosto) instead use some random alias to navigate around a breach of contract (= he/she has passed all rights to the society to govern use of known works). If the composer has previously reported a given song to the society, then it can't be used regardless of alias.
So: Song registered with a society = no go. Song not registered with a society & composer uses an untraceable alias = ok.
p01, if you have someone at the party place, then you yourself don't need a ticket as your representative already has one.
Wysiwtf, if you do a remote entry and win the demo compo, yes we'll pay the prize (minus any costs involved in paying the prize). All #1 prizes are cash, so that's easy. Hardware prizes will be interesting as shipment may at times cost a lot, so it might not make sense to even send those.
El-bee, if you belong to a copyright society like Teosto, you can not participate in any ASSEMBLY compos.

Seems like a good way of doing things to me.
CSI will track you down.
If you have given copyright administration of your works to a copyright society and you think you can outsmart the system by using a fake name and you submit your shit to an Assembly compo, then you are just putting Assembly organizing at risk. If you get caught, Assembly organizing gets all the consequences, you dont get any. How hard can it be. Don't sign contracts you don't want to obey.
By the way, I resigned from Teosto and Gramex about two years ago, so that I could submit to Revision, where the local GEMA association had been showing unreasonable practices. At Assembly, the rule wasn't stated as clearly back then. In hindsight, I shouldn't have made the music to a certain oldskool beeper thingy (which was submitted by the main coder, not me), it may have been against the Teosto contract, although I knew the chance of getting caught was practically zero. But now Assembly's rules are clear and hard, you can't submit even code or graphics if you're under Teosto contract.
By the way, I asked about this directly from Teosto and their answer was, regarding Revision, that if GEMA hunts people down by their names even if there is no "song record" of the works, then that is against the international agreements GEMA has with Teosto. And that Teosto is (was?) not really interested in spoiling anyone's demo hobby ... BUT technically, and in principle Abyss is totally right about this.

I keep reading it as Tiësto, which makes it good and cool.

You sure about this? Interesting how music copyright society can ban you from programming. At least on Revision this is not the case. Can someone at ASM organization clear this? So i can stop programming then :D

Ah Abyss already answered that. No Assembly for me then. Who wants oldskool ticket? :)
Yeah, now the way the rules are written seem like a political agenda from the pirate party or something. If you've handed the copyright management of your musical compositions to an association, you can't submit any type of entry. If the copyright associations are sometimes considered unreasonable, what might this be then. I hope that's just an oversight.
By the way, I wonder how much money Teosto has been asking.

This Tetsuo,Peta, Exa,Gema arkinson, is like society that doesn't makes sense. And the manetary system. Also like browsers with 8 teknologies. So they invaded demonparties? I am dizzy. Gotta drink ma Aftershock.

I guess that is why I offered my candidacy for the Dutch Pirate Party.

This is exactly the same at Revison and Evoke. If you've handed the copyright management of your musical compositions to an association, you can't submit any type of entry.
Numtek:
I asked this from D.fox this year.
As i am now coming to Revision, probably silly question. but: "If you are a member registered with GEMA or a sibling association, do not enter any of your work in any of our competitions." probably means don't deliver any musical content to any compo?
and got answer "Yes" from D.fox.

GEMA --> no graphics or code from you... That would be just completely nonsensical. Why not ban those people from even attending the party.
Got this from Assembly orgas:
Tervehdys
Viimeksi kun tarkistin niin Teosto ei valvo koodin tekijänoikeuksiin liittyviä
seikkoja.
Terveen järjen käyttäminen on toki tässäkin sallittua :)
Mutta toki jos teet musiikit teokseesi, on teos siten Teoston valvonnan alla,
ja siten meillä kiellettyä.
T-101 / Listening Music Organizer
Basically means come on people use common sense, if you are member of copyright society you cannot participate with your music in any Assembly compos.

Thanks Rebb. So it was just an oversight, like I hoped. But as we know, if you write "rules" for coders, don't be surprised if they take your text literally.
Anyway, if your yearly fees from Teosto and Gramex are less than the cost of a few beers and pizzas, then it's not worth it. Demoscene is more important.
