3D Printed DUCK.3DS
category: offtopic [glöplog]
@cosmicollie:
Here is your keyring model in a bronze-infused stainless steel print. via shapeways
It currently lives next to the outline party bottle opener and AMcBain's @Party fob on my keychain.

here is DUCK.3DS floating in a bowl of water.
It now has even weight distribution and glows in the dark. Guaranteed to be a hit at pool parties.

Hah, nice! Too bad my 3D printer is always "almost here". They just sent one of the electronic boards back for another pilot because the manufacturer accidentally used an underspec part. I'm hoping to receive the kit before the end of the summer, but maaan.by █▄ █▄█ █ ▄█▀:

Looks like a potato
should've used a differently colored bowl for the shot. not much contrast now.

Looks like a potato
This was my first thought when I saw the pic. It's basically a peeled potato. It's making me hungry, in fact.
New challenge: carve duck.3ds from a raw potato :D
... or sugar beet (might be easier)
I showed the image to somebody else and he said it looked like an apple, so that may be another possible target (though a potato seems easier).
Hello my friends - hey louis
thank you for sharing a photo of the keychain ring.
it was a lot of fun to create - hope you enjoy it.
came out really cool. hope to see you soon on an
upcoming demoparty. we didn´t talk in person yet.
this is a project i´m working on lately:
a spartan helmet ring for a friend of mine.
it is a unique piece - exists only once and it is
not for sale.
just to give you some specs on this if you´re interested:
• about 10 hours of modeling work
• wax plot on a solidscape 3Z pro (approximately 72 ! hours
of plotting time)
• weight 89,46 grams • Sterling Silver + 3% VV
• price for this piece incl. VAT for the 3d plot, work,
silicone mold, casting, shipping and cleanup would be nearly
2000 euro (but as said this was a gift and is not for sale)
guys - this one is a BEAST !
what do you think ? hope you like it
cu soon

just another additional information:
please don´t get me wrong:
the cracks, blood splatter etc. in the model aren´t there because of a poor 3d plot - the 3Z is absolutely capable of reproducing finest details.
the cracks etc. are totally ment to be there and i added them to the actual 3d object.
here is a screenshot from inside of zbrush

Seeing as there's probably not a better thread, for those looking in to 3D printers, 3D Hubs released their "2015" buyer's guide with multiple categories, rankings, etc. The caveat is the list only includes printers with at least 10 ratings, and their larger Printer Index only includes those with 5 or more, so it won't include any that just came out or don't have enough users who visit 3D Hubs and rate them.
@luis: wow! it will be possible to purchase one? how much it cost? (for both keyring and duck)
The ring is kickass! :)
@rez: DUCK.3DS is priceless. I'll be at the Revision 2015. I'll be bringing multiple ducks and limited edition keyring prints with me. I can easily be convinced to give them for free after several rounds of Krawalbrause. I F*CKING LOVE DUCK.3DS. Expect to see him on the big screen.
Now we just need someone to print the OpenGL teapot ;-)
Ollie: that's crazily awesome! Amazing work on the modelling, and amazing final result too :D

Would that be the same as the Utah teapot? If so it's preceding OpenGL with 17 years or something :-)
Well someone tried but it's not large enough to brew a real pot, and doesn't offer the ceramic option. (I believe that's the only food-safe material they offer.)
<RbR_> Saga_Musix: can you post that with greetings in the 3d printed duck.3ds thread @pouet pls? https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/75499946/kartoffelduck.3ds.png
nice potato duck. looks delicious. but does it glow in the dark?
We've already shown DUCK.3DS on the bigscreen, in 64k! :)
This thread made me start looking for affordable 3D printers @home. Thanks cosmic and luis for the inspiration!

This one http://luis.net/personal/pouet/floatingDuck.jpg looks like a peeled potato ready to fry
I just realized I really want a glow in the dark duck.3ds.
boooooo! posting tube links instead of pouet ones!
