dipswitch, thank you for the late reply. i don't know what you display ascii with, but i'm guessing it's acid view. there will soon be a new acid view version, and latest pablodraw version (the one released with the acid trip pack) displays xbin quite perfectly. eto extended the limit to 5000 columns for our eyes pleasure.

last year we used truck's magnifiscent compo tool, and i think we will use it again. i don't know, however, whether and how it displays xbin. we'll see.

so... that tool - is that something I could get hold of?
No _single_ program is able to display various ANSI pictures correct...

Puryx, pablodraw?

There's been a discussion about that on IRC a few days ago, the tool is online somewhere but only the version from last year so far, which doesn't include fixes from Payback. Maybe poke truck on IRC to learn more about it.

iks: if I recall correct, Pablodraw is very good for presenting on a big screen (no proper fullscreen mode, without window edges etc)

Is is possible to have a PC 8k intro compo at evoke? It was fun to make one for Revision :)

Last years 4k-compo had not too many entries already. adding an 8k-compo ontop of that could end up in 2 compos with 2 entries, organizers having to merge them in the end, maybe even with the 64k-compo, would make voting very unfair!
Don´t get me wrong, i love the new 8k-compo and would like to see it on every party myself...but i guess it needs to get adopted by coders a bit more first.
You still can do an 8k and drop it in the 64k-compo, wouldn´t be the first time people vote wisely and the small one wins against the big ones! Thats what i am going to do btw, just saying (not keeping it secret anymore from here) as i dont want to wait until next Revision to release my half-done 8k and to motivate you to do your evoke-8k! :)

Yeah, just like Starstruck by TBL ranked last in the combined demo compo at Assembly because Amiga had to compete against PC... oh wait.
I think you can expect the audience to be educated enough to judge an 8k vs a 64k, just like people can tell apart 1ks in 4k compos.

for real: comparing an 8k to a 4k is almost impossible without having done both before yourself!
After Initialisation and SoftSynth-Integration you´re left with ~1kb for visuals in a 4k. In an 8k you have ~5k! try to compare that!

I vote for 8k, but wouldn't sacrifice 4k for it.
Killing established competitions is an absolute no go - assembly showed how to fail hard doing that.

Well imho you could kill the game compo - heard game compos are kind of hard to manage. ;)

i'm not sure whether the timetable would allow for an additional compo (we have two days, not three like revision), but ultimately it's not me to decide.

as long as the party is full of hot german people, you can have compos 24/7 for my sake!

Would love to make another Evoke party again, after all, Evoke 2007 was my stag weekend, although if I do visit, my wife will probably join me :)
