going to Datastorm 2014?
category: parties [glöplog]
so since im feeling very invited to ds2014 and its ought to be the last installment and all im currently checking travel options.
anyone from the northern regions of germany going? by plane or bus? what are the options?
a quick googling revealed that a flight would probably be cheapest from berlin to gotheburg and back, but that would mean getting to berlin first...

wysiwtf: at least last year, there used to be a "südschweden spezial" by deutsche bahn, sarting with 39€ by train in one direction! [yourtown]-->hamburg-->copenhagen-->göteborg in about 10 hours, fast and nice trains, excellent view and travel feel. only can recommend it. you have to book very early, so be quick.
also, datastorm itself is absolutely awesome, and i really regret i can't go this year.

wow that looks indeed like a major option.
thx dips :)
thx dips :)
the only problem is that you arrive really late in the evening usually. so either you miss half a day of datastorm, stay a night at a hotel, or find some göteborg scene friends to crash at =)
flights booked, hotel booked (4-5 min walk from the party place)!!
trash'm-one (still personal favourite @A500) is assembling lame OCS/ECS release like there is storm coming. ;)))

Rocks, as long as it's one of the 1.xx versions, 2.xx was quite a step backwards. :)
HEL - GOT flights booked.
it's 1.6, of course!! maybe will update to 1.7 one day. :))
searching for trains to book one thing occured to me:
for a good ride back (without hours of waiting time) I either have to depart on sunday 11am or monday 5am (which would be even cheaper too).
so when will the party be over and is there any afterparty pub going planned or something?
obviously it would suck to be alone out on the streets 12h before the train leaves so in that case id go the safe route and leave early.

You can safely aim for the 11am. Prize giving and all that jazz is usually in the middle of the night and after 4-5-6am there's usually no more action.
What hotel is that,Bonefish?4-5 mins sound quite appealing in comparison to the long and freezing walk I had at last DS.
@Corial,
it's http://www.booking.com/hotel/se/radisson-blu-riverside.en-gb.html. I found it that it's quite close to the party place and not that much more expensive than suggested "Hotel 11" (around 15-20% more if you get it at least one month in advance).
...and, to have a complimentary access to SPA pools (whirlpool or whatever) on the morning after too much... err... parting = priceless. ;)))

Does sound good, thanks Bonefish .I stayed at Hotel 11 last time. Its really good, but fuck the walk was terribly cold!
Btw.Bonefish - do remember there's an Amiga community on ada.untergrund.net - not sure I've ever seen you there....
@Corial: yep, I know. I'm lurking there from time to time. :))
i even registered there recently (http://ada.untergrund.net/?p=user&i=2025), but even that I can login normally to the portal, still wasn't able to use the forum; when tried to post, asked me to login again and again and again ---=> guru meditation. when tried to sign-up in the forum again, it asked me 5 letters capta and after entering them, redirects me to the forum home page. after several retries, I came to the conclusion that I'm probably too old (read: stupid) for that shit.

bonefish: separate registrations for forum & demo database + possibly disabled forum registration of new users due to spam (at least it was like that some time back). :-S
well, disabled registration is quite limiting when it comes to growing user base. I know at least 3-4 amiga coders (old farts) that are probably not registered on ada forum.
on the other side, it is "only" 50 days till datastorm!!
time flies! only 40 days till datastorm!!
trains booked,
be afraid.
be afraid.
one of our members, very good friend of mine, arriving from Ireland, will land in Stockholm on Friday (14th Feb) at 10:55 am, and is looking for a best way to get from Stockholm to Datastorm (Gothenburg).
therefore, locals, do you have any suggestions? which trains/bus/cheap local flights...
or, even better, anyone going from/through Stockholm (to Datastorm) have a spare seat? of course, he's more than willing to participate in travel costs. you have my promise that he'll be a good traveling companion. :))

The SJ2000 fast trains direct from Stockholm to Gøteborg is a pretty awesome and beautiful 3:15 ride that I very much recommend. Sadly not going to DS because I am not oldschool enough, but I used to be a Sweden-based train nut. They leave once per hour! :)
nic0, thanks for the info! I'll let him know.
ive posted this on the datastorm site before but since pouet has a lot more traffic here it is again:
im looking for a pair of good joysticks (competition pros or better - but not the uber expensive exotic ones, i want to use them) and/or a c64 (new sid prefered), so if someone is willing to sell it because his garage is stuffed with ancient hardware and the wife is constantly complaining (or something ;) drop me a line here or on IRC.
