I'm sending various 'nOOgz! where are you, nOOgz!' messages in various forms to things, but... it seems to be not reaching nOOgz.

His employer on the top of the hill may have him imprisoned or something! Must have pubmeet to rescue him!

I counted him (:

I missed IW, tho, so 8.

So with this many people in and around Seattle, why don't we have a party yet? :P I'm only about three hours away and made the drive many times. The Northwest Rooms at the Seattle center seem large enough for a small demoparty. The Seattle Mini Maker Faire has hosted itself there twice now.

(I figured since this had already been necroposted by more than one person it was less bad to add another.)
Because organizing parties is a lot of work and requires commitment.

On the people side, you need someone to head up the crew, and then you need a bunch of other organizers and volunteers.
On the organization side, in addition to finding a site and getting everything together related to it, you need to do publicity and outreach (two different things), arrange for all the gear needed, find speakers, and find sponsors.
Doing it once is hard enough. To really have a party, you need to do it again and again so it becomes an institution. And at any moment, from alienating folks in the community to experiencing venue issues, you can get derailed.

If a group of folks gets together to run a party in the Seattle area, or in California, or anywhere else, I am happy to advise them on what I have learned running @party and Récursion, and connect them to the other organizers of those parties who may be able to tell them something that would be of use to them.

omg, Gargaj has a moustache?
:)

The pics spoiled it for me - I was envisioning a younger, slimmer Ron Jeremy.

Haven't there been arbitrary European parties that have been more like get-togethers, though? Not intending to have huge gobs of people, but stick around because the 15 or whatever people* are interested in getting together again the next year?

* Total ass-pull. I have no idea the size of such similar parties or the name of the one[s] I'm thinking of when writing this.

I'm not saying they don't need planning, most probably wouldn't show up if there wasn't any. However depending on what you're aiming for and the number showing up, it seems perhaps asking to commandeer, say, a Hackerspace for an evening might not be all that hard for a mini-party and demoshow.

Also don't take the previous to mean "NO! [We] don't want your help." That would be a silly thing to say. I am wondering though if something couldn't be arranged more easily if we considered the definition of demoparty to be a get together with at least a compo. Start small, yeah? :)
I don't know what is this all about, but I am Gargaj's side anyway!

What happened: noogz got out of prison after 6 years, and people started talking about how gargaj's moustache was in 2095 instead of saying congrats.

@AMC Thats happening at my folks house this Saturday (UK), a small gathering of 5 scene people! One from Chester, one or two from London and one from Scotland, and me, flew in from the Netherlands :D Just because.

Nice! Sounds fun.

For a single evening of something with a smallish group of people, planned ahead, a place like Metrix probably wouldn't mind. They have a small ceiling-mounted projector and table space. DIY/Maker/Hacker* Seattlites should know that place. If they don't, duuuude! You're missing out! :P They've definitely got the various odds and end parts for things such as could maybe be fashioned in to those small hardware demos. Plus generous hours: noon to midnight, every day of the week. This on the assumption most people are on the west side of the state (I'm not).

* Original definition, before the media circus.
Sounds like it might be time for another less-abortive attempt at a Perth Pubmeet.
