Any news on ASD?
category: residue [glöplog]
They haven't released any remarkable demos or anything this year, as far as I can tell. Last thing was Mito Chondrio, which was great. But nothing else more of note after that - WTH?
Didn't you hear? They died during the riots in Greece.
The IMF forced the Greek government to cut the demomaking subsidies.
yeah, i think i killed them, sorry about that. atleast now they are up there with tpolm and farbrausch.
Well, at some point every creative force is run out. Especially, if you have to concentrate your energy on something else - like a job or family. I would say, ASD had their peak with "Lifeforce" - and what a peak that was -, but now other things are more important in life.
Farbrausch has also pretty much stopped its activity regarding demo making, with so many other great demoscene groups.
Others have to come in and fill the gap.

ASD is for years working on a new momentum like lifeforce or happiness is around the bend. Or i like to believe that.. Dont believe the hype! I believe in Navis! ;)
Sorry, I didn't like "Violent Nature" much at all.
I've heard the Demoscene "may" be dying, but hasn't that been said a few times before through the decades? It evolves with the times, surely?

They don't have to please you.
Start a fundraiser! Oh and make a demo about it.
Future Crew will fill the gap.
Triton: Crystal Dream 3 :)
Crystal Dream 3, with raytraced refractions and reflections! That would be lovely. Definitely looking forward to see the chess game raytraced and the realtime fractal zoomer over the lovely, strong and cheerful vibes from Lizardking.. (trans_atlantic.mod)
Though it would be equally as lovely to see something new from ASD, though i completely understand it's demotivating to throw hard work into a piece when you see the reaction of some people, no wonder the scene is dying.

Foebane72: So basically you're asking "why are they not creating stuff I like anymore?" ?
Did you remember to pay the invoices?

Hi,
We are here and reading pouet every day (also watching new demos and stuff) and planning to visit a party or two in the near future.
I personally don't want to make another multi-part megademo like Lifeforce or happiness, because it saps quite a lot of energy out of us, and also because we've done this before.
If you believe that demos are art, then what is the point of doing the same thing again and again just because it works? Having said that, our latest demo (Violent nature) is one that I really really enjoyed making and watching. I know it is a disappointment to many of you but this is more "me" than another lifeforce.
Having said that, I have been working on a couple of ideas - there are 4 demos in my head, two of which I have already 30-40 seconds and, imho, look good.
I've put down Euskal 2014 in my calendar already, so not all is lost ;-)

I also want to say that every new demo that we make should add something to our demology. These days I'm experimenting more with 3d pipeline/real-world fusion - it's more fun than texture mapped objects, surely!?

Navis: haven't you heard? Your only job as a famous demoscener is to make the same thing that people liked before and NEVER DEVIATE! Because if it's something that matters, it's to keep giving people who never do anything themselves exactly what they want. That is the spirit of the demoscene, surely?!
What gloom said. We liked life-force, and we expect you to keep making that same demo over and over with different objects to make us happy, and then we'll complain that it's not quite as good as life-force and tell you that you're passed your best.
More seriously: any chance of some interactive bits navis? It's trivial to get live camera input up and running, and with a wireless camera this could rule massively in a party (assuming you can get the orgas to allow it up front :)

Part of the job is to make people thing "hey that's cool". I just don't think that big megademos are that cool any more. I say this after presenting demos and the demoscene to many outsiders over the past recent years - I can see a shift with what inspires people.
They way things are going in my head, my ultimate demo from 2050 (when I will be 72) will be a single black pixel on a black canvas with PS' white noise in the background; for 8 minutes. This will be the ultimate masterpiece :-))

demos stay demos - no interaction. But I do interactive things for work sometimes.

And then they tell you how much it sucks and how they wish it was something else...
THE MASSES DEMAND SEQUELS, SO YOU GIVE THEM SEQUELS. THAT'S HOW WE ROLL, BIAAATCH!

but what about the ASDF ? I think the missing letter brings muchos...
navis: fair enough. Not sure i agree on the megademo thing, they're more entertaining and you can get a deeper level of art into a more complex project. But yeah, the massive work involved... maybe a cross-over would work? A mega-demo style project with parts, progression and so on, but built in the more experimental style instead of relying on tons of 3D and artwork.
Personally I'm happy either way though - while life-force is my favourite ASD demo, I love to see more innovative stuff too, and I really like violent nature. So go make violent nature 2 please :P
