tomthumb - now in realtime (kindof)

in case you remember tom thumb from 2002, you might remember it being a pre-rendered animation because of the limited processing power at the time.

well, I took a bit of time and looked at the source and figured it might be plausible to do a realtime version now. turns out it is, so here you go: http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/code/tomthumb_realtime.zip

it's not 100% identical because the source didn't include a bunch of audio/video stuff that was in the original, and there are some subtle differences, but other than that it at least allows you to check different random seeds without having to re-render / re-encode / etc.

there might be a writeup on displayhack at some point about the intricacies of the port.

This was a semi failed experiment of some grand ideas, speed coded and hurriedly released. I never imagined it would live over 10 years!!!

Gargaj you're a legend - I'd love to see a longer blog on how you cleaned up my horrible mess!

It's sure a bummer the video overlay of the woman is missing, however it's nice to play around a bit - just tried 27256788888 as a seed and the whole tree was embraced by red tentacles. Remember trying to run the demo, or better the "demomaker" before and it just rendered blackness for me - so thanks a lot to Gargaj for making this happening.

Also what seeds did others find? 1337 looked rather boringly normal :)
