Abstract gfx compo

category: gfx [glöplog]
Forcer: Newschool and oldschool are separated by technical restrictions, not really artistic ones. That analogy does not work.

Also, any talk about what's "fair" is just silly in this context.
Many time oldschool gfx end up in the same compo with
freestyle graphics, just saying.

Korvkiosken, this whole thread is silly :]

Forcer: That does not in any way make the analogy less broken.

@forcer:
i do see the meaning of your post. (i REALLY DO!)
but:
as i understand the common rules of the demoscene it's all about technical restrictions not about the content you provide.
i'd love to see a abstract gfx compo to happen. but unlikely this will not happen.
just let's compare it to the demo-compos...
there's 4k, 64k, whateverK.
but you're free to provide the content you like to.
and it's all about that!
so: there's no restriction of content in single competitions anyway. only technical ones.
a content-oriented compo would be progressive to the scene. and i don't see that to happen by a bunch of people who get satisfied by every means in contributing wonderful products in terms of technical restrictions.

btw.: i hate to see the gfx-compos to be devided into "freestyle", "modern", "handmade", "...whatever..."... doesn't make any sense to me. if you do gfx, you just DO GFX, you know...!?!

btw: there once WAS some kind of that... it was called "THEME GFX", and was happened to be held on the breakpoint parties...

Plenty of parties have divided up the music compos on stylistic grounds - "listening music" vs "dance music", "traditional" vs "alternative". No reason why it couldn't be done with graphics too.

gasman: yeah because that always worked so well :)

i like the category "listening music" :-)

The listening music compo is actually at the Assembly :]

"The listening music competition is for all music that isn't dance music"

btw, there's usually lots of track in that category.

Forcer: cool idea. I don't necessarily think we need an "abstract gfx" compo as such, but more compos with some sort of theme or restriction is definitely a good idea.

We already have platform specific, resolution- and colour specific compos... and Breakpoint had theme gfx compos for a while. Let's bring it back.

yo.

Prince: you need to compete in low-resolution compos :)
