why was it disallowed in the first place?

what i'd love is for all the old 'lost' diskmag articles of value (and probably not for completeness) to be brought in the modern age, probably in web form.
(from my perspective particularly the coding ones)
unfortunately i guess a lot of these used custom authoring systems/viewers.
Indeed so, however Truck has alluded to the fact that PAiN might have the information available in a format somewhere that could be converted to the web. Hugi already has web dumps of their magazines, but the markup is awful (resulting in sites that may not be the most readable). I have had some luck transforming them into something a little nicer. Unfortunately I only got about two done, but it is on my TODO list to at least look at a few others. (I won't share my conversion script, sorry, because I'm not proud of it. It is horrible, but gets the job mostly done.)
I don't know much about other diskmags but if contacted they might have some data file that could be used to generate web-ready versions of them. Problem is then where to host them if the group that wrote it is gone or doesn't have a webspace.
Finally the scene has succeeded in getting rid of Adok, his racism and the dumbest articles ever.
I foresee a total renewal of the demoscene mindset and spirit soon as diskmags are and will remain a reflection of the soul of the movement: when diskmags suxx, scene suxx as after all they are information and information is power as it formats your thoughts, thus your actions, thus your demos.

i shall call you... nostrademos!
McBain: Hosting is the least of the problem - diskmagarchive.scene.org (or something) sounds like a reasonable option.
McBain: or you could apply for untergrund.net webspace.
g: it was never really disallowed, but we planned for mostly original content, and unfortunately this was misread as "NO!", which lead to a decrease in writer activity. Anyway: the concept now is to source good material in for the feature articles, so it requires the good will of people who know what they are talking about AND has no issue with cross-posting, which takes a little time to get up and running. In addition, we'll start aggregating content in short-form with links as well.
gargaj: if someone can extract the data, that sounds very reasonable.

my problem with the 'one site for shitload of niches'-approach that displayhack is trying to pursue, is that 90% of its content seem totally uninteresting for me and my niche and thus, 90% of the website is unneccesary rubbish i don't want to read, making it a not-so-good website from an user perspective. e.g. its tutorials page. if you know what i mean ;)
also, i think we should pick up that 'outreach'-page one day.
nothing all too fancy, just reg about.scene.org and put some quotes from wikipedia.org/demoscene or DOG and some up-to-date demos from curio/youtube there to give ppl a slight idea wtf demoscene is, and possible contact info to some people willing to answer questions. i know there's demoscene.info but that looks old and isnt updated in years.
just to act as an online demoscene brochure ;)

Maali: Everyone is different. Personally I like to at least skim over articles even if I don't technically grasp all the details. I like to know what to respect about different demoscene disciplines.
This thread is in fork city right now...

this thread needs more drama.
adok, why are you quitting?

ruairi: mind you, it's more than demoscene disciplines according to the description of the website.
I'd love to congratulate Magic with his return to a position as main editor, but so far all we know for sure is that Adok's quitting. Magic, please let us know, are you stepping up or..? Thnx!
rumors say magics takeover was a coup d'état
v3nom, I don't think so, as far as I know Magic respects and trusts Adok way too much, so I don't see how that could happen!
All will be explained in Hugi#38. Which has some of the best articles ever! And ofcourse great music and gfx as always! Wait for it Ladies & Gentleman. The 'diskmag scene' isn't dead yet! Even without Pain & Zine !
Greetz,
Magic
p.s. demoscene rulez ;-)

Can't wait! When will it be released?
v3nom: rumor has it that it was me

Every thread Adok starts, moves along steady.
We'll miss him. Will we?
RLY?

so, the main editor went from the top 5% of the IQ range to the lowest 5% of the IQ range? interesting!
