Random "work in progress" shots

alien: a found it!
wait, it's a picture? I thought it was a spectacularly cool plasma :( Well, new gfx modes are still cool :)
Sigflup: thsi is all wrong...
This is false. My friend Jorge tried to come up with a solution, but couldn't even get any display. He abandoned the project.
I rewrote it from scratch. Jorge didn't consider most of the steps that were necessary to produce stable picture. (e.g. overflowing the fifo buffer)
I posted it in the spritesmind forums, then Chilly Willy asked for the source, and I posted a zip file there, with a read me that says "Don't just rip this stuff please." And then Chilly Willy essentially copypasted it into his own demo (Yeah, he changed the comments and register names... boo hoo), made a new thread (without ANY mention of me or my code), and started collecting fame.
Well, I wouldn't complain. I love new demos with new tricks. Except that we have a demo coming up ourselves that uses this mode, and it has been in development for several months, which is why I really hate to see this going everywhere before I could even release anything with it used in the way that I intended.
Yes, nemesis analyzed it, and explained it, and improved it a bit. And, most importantly, correctly recognized me as the original author.
And alien^PDX meant you shouldnt use a google pic in a demo (just for testing! ;))... =P

Oerg866 took that code and managed to find a stable method of starting the display, but never did more than that one demo and forgot about it.

I got the code from Oerg866, cleaned it up into a proper demo

That was when Nemesis (I think it was him) did a detailed bus analysis of why the code worked, and posted details and suggested new code that would be better.

haha. where does he get the nerves to say that complete BS... :)
@oerg866 thanks for clarifying. When, may I ask, are you releasing?
@fizzer very nice!
@sigflup:
no sweat :) we're releasing at evoke.. august 16 or something like that

@oerg866 fuck, we're releasing June 15th for @party. The technique is the last screen and not terribly essential to the demo. Would you be happy with in-demo credits?
@oerg866 btw I had no idea chilly willy copy-pasted your code
yes, I would be. Like I said, it's not terribly bad, I just wanted to get this cleared up.
I'm looking forward to the release :)

fizzer: seems to have issues on the latest Chrome on OSX:
it looks even better!
that's wildly different from what i get on safari or chrome /osx. I see what looks like a flat but very noisy rainbow in the shape of what it's supposed to look like. It runs at 60fps.
Then, for extra weirdness, if I remove the AO term (replace line 99 with "float ao = 1.;" I see the correct shape, flat shaded. But it drops to 20fps.
Wtf :D

Clearly, there is something wrong with my code on OSX. Well, it is a "work in progress" after all ;)
@oerg866 I look forward to your release too, I can't wait to see it
Obligatory "still not using GNU Rocket for sync" demoengine part XXX:
At least this time we can just export the sync tracks from Cubase :)

The little project I am working on... I hope to release it one day because I anbandonned my project both on android & psvita for now.
Not the sexiest screenshot ever, but here's a vector font I'm working on...
(loosely based on the OCR-A monospaced font)

There seem to be a few real world projects in here, and since I don't really have any WIP shots from demos (at least not without stealing from my only in progress one that isn't out yet and wouldn't be very impressive anyway) ... I figured I'd link to the various shots and videos(!) I took working on the Nectarine key fobs that eventually showed up at Revision 2013 for those not really paying attention to Nectarine. The process for the Revision key fobs is largely the same, except I had to keep my mouth shut about them until I showed up to Revision (that was hard!), and as such there really wasn't any public rounds of feedback.
It started actually as a random idea on the way home from the hackerspace I visit, as the drive is 3 hours (if you don't stop anywhere) to get back from so I've got a lot of time to think about random stuff and I had failed to rally anything under a Nectarine t-shirt before and realized I just needed to go do something then people would take interest afterwards perhaps. t-shirts would be bad because I have to work it out with a local place that has the same hours as I work and everyone has a different size, so you can't just make or stock one version. In the end, I turned out to be right on the fobs. As soon as I had a picture of a real one, I instantly got "I want one!" responses.
The thread with all the write-up may not be worth it to peruse for some, so I'll try to link to the most relevant posts below. However, the thread isn't really that large.
Mockups and fonts. I started with my own lettering, but switching to a real font made doing text so much easier and nicer looking.
Depth tests and pictures of the first 50. (I still have 9 of the original batch left, Revision's were separate.) Feedback was via the one-liner on the depth while I was there. I still have the really deep one, I thought it was nice. Though the lighter ones ended up the most popular and I think they're nice too. Plus doing super deep for each one wouldn't have been cost effective, I think.
Videos of the laser cutter in action!
Pictures of an attempt to create a quickly done plastic version via Shapeways.
Some things I learned:
- Stay away from tung oil! It sticks to everything, and seeped into the wood instead of making a nice finish.
- or get a better wood. Unfortunately the wood I got was cheapish "oak" plywood from the local lumberyard (which board has the least veneer issues, and the least warping?) so while it gave everything a very nice texture, according to some, that makes every fob unique, it also means the wood is very porous.
Sorry for the long post or if you think this is spam (that wasn't my intention).

Looks interesting, why'd you abandon it? (for those that didn't figure it out, the image is much larger if you view it directly!)
Because of the difficulty to find gfx and sounds who fit well, plus the fact that there is no real gameplay.
It's basically a stupid idea born from the onliner, and i've made a game about it.
A basic version here: http://www.notnotme.com/misc/lulz.zip
I have just to recode the gameplay parts, make a "level1" map, and add credits.
