Audio production/engineer tutorials
category: music [glöplog]
Not sure if there's a topic for this, but I'll start one anyway.. The reason being, I wrote this two-part tutorial about setting up a frequency band split in Ableton Live and using that to beef up a sampled breakbeat.
Let's gather more demoscener audio production tutorials here. Please share if you've made one! :)
My tutorials are here:

yumeji: I guess that's why the thread is called "Audio production/engineer tutorials" ;) But you can also make tutorials about music: http://scene.org/file.php?file=/resources/seminars/music/bp06_happy-hardcore-crash-course-for-coders_by_skrebbel_xvid.avi&fileinfo
Synth-specific tutorial (Quiver, ofcourse)

or try to make something original.
Most people I know tend to do just fine learning the letters of the alphabet instead of inventing their own. It's not the techniques and tricks that makes good tracks, it's how you use it, combine it and more often: refrain from using them, that makes good tracks ;)

here's mine:
1) make a ~30 seconds template of a song
2) listen to it the next day
3) realize that it sucks
4) remove the drums
5) put it in paulstretch, about 20x it's length
6) epic stardom among self proclaimed "musicians" in the ambient music genre!
7) wait for email from ps or nosfe (depending on the initial genre of your ~30 seconds template of a song) how they want to have your babies
8) go to 1)

yep, just accept that >90% of your output is garbage, the next 9% are "meh", and with a bit of talent and dedication the final 1% could be the bee's knees.

i was pondering the idea to make a screencap of how i make a song from scratch in Renoise but realized my methods are pretty unorthodox (i think i use only 30% of the features it offers for example) so it won't be of much use for anyone. and it would just show me screwing around aimlessly, entertaining myself until some tune comes out.
i dunno. maybe i will do one with some comical narration, but i really don't think this is what the world needs.
