ok, in case people decide to dig up this thread in a few years, this is where it all started.

Be fair, it started on page seven

it's not like it changes much.

Even if I am a misogynist, homophobic and aggressive nationalist, I never displayed such behavior towards anyone here. Instead I contributed to this community. I know pouet is not the scene, but the same people are at sceneparties, and I don't want to be part of such community. Not because some weed-smoking rasta-haired nobody can scare me with random rants, but because I don't belong here. Go ahead, enjoy yourself, "scene".

Oh, yet another "bye demoscene" drama queen thread!

Getting rid of this embarrassing misanthropic terrorist is probably the best scene-related news I've heard this year.

Now, let's make some demos about it to ensure that he won't come back.
Yes because the scene is all about impressing outsiders ("outreach") and everyone embarrassing needs to be ostracized.
I spent the good part of an hour browsing the old thread to give you all "shit tomcat says". I don't usually put this much effort into posts, but whatever. Let's just dive in:

Quote:
He can be grateful that I did not fuck him in front of everybody.

The homophobe opens with a nice Freudian slip.

Quote:
CrossProduct, I am happy that I depressed you.

Such care for people with mental illness.

Quote:
Well, you fuck up your own country and your children's future as you wish. Flood your country with immigrants, let gays parade your streets and tell women not to give birth but be "independent" instead.

Holy nationalist homophobic misogyny, Batman!

Quote:
Every civilization's fall starts with enabling such deviances.

[citation needed]

Quote:
We, East Europeans do not wish that. Have fun with your equality.

I'm sure Gargaj would disagree. Also, have fun with your misery.

Quote:
visy, please turn a few pages back, and see for yourself that it was the poster of this homoerotic picture who called it "liberalist propaganda".

"What is sarcasm?"

Quote:
ham, I don't have a definition of "independence for women", as it has never occurred me to change their social status in any way. Certainly locking them up in the basement is wrong

Not locking women up in basements? What a novel idea!

Quote:
ham: You can fake things, but those will be fake. Adopted kids are not your own, and you're not a parent.

Orphans don't deserve love. Genes are everything. Praise Dawkins!

Quote:
As for democracy, there is a common misbelief that democracy is a synonime to a constitutional state, and it's the only form of state that can grant any rights to citizens. Actually it's the one that deprives the most rights. In fact even Nazism is better than democracy, because at least Nazis don't lie about their intents.

Ah, the old two-faced "I'm nice to you but a complete dick towards everone else". Have you considered being a decent human being instead?

So yeah.. While I suspect most people here enjoy circlejerking about the history of the scene, in this case doing so indirectly supports homophobic, misogynistic nationalist views.

TL;DR: Please grow some empathy. Until then:

Now that I finished my popcorn.

Freax vol. 1. is awesome. It brought me much closer to the demoscene than I already was. It raised my interest and helped me a lot to understand the complexity and history of demomaking. Also the Art Album is a very memorable item on my bookshelf (not just because I won it in a compo).
Personally I don't share Tomcat's views, never did (though I understand his anger at some point). I don't even care, it's his business. I liked the book he wrote, and I'd love to see a second edition. And you know what? If he went out to throw eggs bought from the money I paid for the book, I wouldn't care either. I paid for the entertainment the book offered me. I got what I paid for, the rest is none of my business. It's like saying "I refuse to go to a demoparty 'cause the orgas will probably buy booze from the profit I make by buying a ticket, and alcohol is bad!"

Not that I'm protecting Tomcat (he's a grown man, and he already made his bad impression here), but I want to see the damn Freax vol. 2.

Oh, and before saying the clichés about freedom/liberality/equality etc. please be advised that he's talking about Hungary. And that's a completely different world compared to the European dream you live in.

In case I'm an asshole now 'cause I didn't join the fight, that's okay. I don't give a shit about that either. I just want to be in the scene, liked or not.

I was in Hungary and it didn't seem to be a "completely different world".
added on the 2013-05-30 13:56:11 by Rob Rob
in fact, (austro-)hungary is one of the birthplaces of what we might call modern european urban culture. so the "completly different world" argument is really some bullshit.

and yes, freax 1 was extremely good, and furthermore, as tomcat pointed out, i helped him with some amiga ascii history back then and also wrote a very favourable review of it in PAiN.

-SP-: AFAIK, Hungary is located on planet Earth and is inhabited by human beings.

And it would be the same if were on Mars cause what make it part of our same world is that is inhabited by human beings and not other circunstance.

I don't think that you'll be called an asshole if you don't fight but,
usually, people who don't give a shit about other people are called assholes.

You want to be in the scene? That's fine but remember that the scene is people and not some abstract thing.

And drinking alcohol is not bad (in general), the same that buying eggs is not bad (in general). But throw eggs with the intention of humiliate people is very bad, the same that being a drunk taxi driver is also very bad.

You get it? Things that harm people are bad.

Never said the opposite. But Tomcat's personal attitude towards society and Freax are completely unrelated. That's why I think boycotting the book just 'cause he likes to cause trouble (for himself or anyone else) is a bit narrow-minded.

once again, for the unattentive reader: there was NO boycott call for the book. this is just tomcat's paranoid thinking.

Personally, I wouldn't buy freax 1 or 2 now that I know what tomcat is.

It would be like going to an expensive restaurant, ordering their finest dish, and then seeing a tramp vomit as the waiter brings it to the table. Perhaps only a tiny bit of tramp vomit goes on the plate, and perhaps the waiter cleans it, and when it arrives it's completely clean of any trace of tramp vomit, no stain, no smell, nothing.

Still, it's there in your mind, and it's going to ruin the dish.

The power of self-victimizing, or maybe rewriting history, is scary.

Nobody asked for a boycott. Still, just because tomcat wrote it people pick it up and start saying that people shouldn't have proposed a boycott.
added on the 2013-05-30 16:15:50 by Rob Rob
-SP-: Nobody could boycott that book better than his own author.

He decided to throw his reputation to the trash can.

If you don't believe me, check up the other thread and see it with your own eyes.

I rather liked Freax 1. It wasn't perfect, but still a solid attempt at documenting parts of demoscene history that have so far been passed forward as word-of-mouth and obscure diskmag writings.

Freax 2 could've been great but instead you chose the road of martyrdom and used it as a vessel for petty revenge, for something that had nothing to do with the book nor the demoscene.

For a man with such strong opinions and apparent knowledge of the ideals behind them, you are extremely immature.

As I already said when Freax 1 came out, I think a demoscene history book would be much more successful as a collaborative project which is open enough to get its errors corrected before publishing.
It's nice how you try to give me advice on my project just shortly after you proposed my ostracisation.

Just remember, a man's work can be separated from his inhumanity and judged on it's own. Just look at Wagner.
