Well, Geoverse definitely is a lot more convincing than the unlimited detail demo. Looks like they finally found a viable product for their tech, the resolution and load speed is definitely impressive.

So basically you're a startup until exit. Which may mean:
- Going bankrupt
- IPO
- Being profitable enough to pay out investors
- Getting sold to a big player

That's going to take a while...

this has been floating around for 10 years, it was first announced in 2003. It STILL looks quite bad.

Looking at the videos it looks like they can't rotate all axis, only X and Y.

At least give them credit for implicitly admitting that the only thing their tech can do well is render a static point cloud efficiently and finding a niche for it. :)

according to redwyre (he's project head there) the datafiles are about 5-15GB big, so that's not as whoopingly big as i expected myself. and if you want a binary, you need to pay him in cash. :P

DATA is pronounced DAY-TAH not DAH-TAH

the DAH-TAH pronunciation is, in my experience predominately used by people trying to sound move clever than they actually are.

day-tah is US english pronunciation, dah-tah is UK english pronunciation (and probably AU english too)

dah ta is the au / nz pronounciation .. not the uk one :)

alk - i'm a brit btw, so as smash says, its not usually pronounced like that here!

psonice - The annoyance for me stems from a particular loud mouthed know-it-all mature student who I think was doing an access course when i was still at college (circa 93). He would stink up the computer labs with his waffle while 'holding court' with his followers *shudders*

(plus I just realised, having worked for a company with the word "data" in its name for over 15 years kind of makes it worse when its pronounced incorrectly!)

Well I'm also a brit who left the country at age 2... I also say day-tah :) But I do remember people saying dah-tah when I was young, I wonder if it become day-tah in the UK by Americanisation through TV shows? (Star Trek NG)

I think of dah-ta as an American pronunciation, because (apart from this guy) I've only ever heard it with the soft T that turns it into "dahda". (See also: "call of doody")

I'm in Australia at the moment and they all say dah-ta.

They all find it amusing that I pronounce router as "rooter", which is slang for whore. It's a tough habit to break!
