Looking for a musician!

Hi!
I’m looking for a musician in order to write my second release, perhaps a 4k or 64k. Because I’m a newcomer (you can see my first release here), I don’t expect to join a team for this release, or even create my very own. I only look for a coop with a musician that would enjoy to contribute to my second release like xtrium did with my first intro! :)
I plan to release that prod for evoke 2013.

Am I right that it has to be executable-music? Or would be an xm okay for you? And: How long should it be?
Something like 2 or 3 minutes; a darkness them (the intro will be very dark at first, and maybe more friendly at the end).
For the “format”, whatever you want to be linked against. A .o with .h, a set of .h / .c, whatever you want, but yes please, no music format (.mp3, .ogg, and so on) because it won’t fit in 4k / 64k. Of course if you can make a .mp3 of a few kilo, it’s okay but I’m not sure it exists :)

Well, whether e.g. xm would be suitable for your prod depends on how much space you are willing to give away to the musician (+ library). So you should maybe think about that before saying "anything goes". ;)
Yeah you are right. I don’t know the XM format yet, so I’ll have to learn it if you provide me one. For giving a clue, for a 64k between 32k and 40k would be great for the track. For a 4k I have unfortunaly no idea since I’ve never written any 4k.
Well, there are tiny libraries like minifmod to play XMs, but you have to keep in mind that XM is sample-based, so XMs are inherently bigger than e.g. softsynth data.
I see. Well, I don’t know really know if it will be a 64k or 4k. I’d really like to do a 4k because it seems to be a great compo too. Maybe it will depend on what kind of music people want to provide?
You'll be surprised how much effort it takes to squeeze good music into a 4k. Until a few years ago, you'd have almost no choice then to write your own tiny introsynth for it.
Since we live in the 21st century now, thankfully technology exists to make your life a lot easier. And for your first 4k, that's probably going to be very reasonable. Also, many musicians are familiar with it already.
Of course, it's much more manly to write your own synth. And you seem like the kind of guy who enjoys the challenge. :)

Yeah I’m that kind of guy, but as you mentionned, for now I have to focus on code if I want to release at evoke. After that, I’ll study softsynth because I’d really enjoy writting my own and compose for it (I play the electric guitar, maybe transposing some of my guitar compo would be so much fun!).
I know by reputation 4klang, but I don’t really know VSTi and all that stuff. I just take « music stuff » from the musician and integrate it into my code. I hope to have further knowledge about tracker and so on later.

The VSTi version of 4klang is just there to make your musician's life easy, because 4klang can be integrated into most DAWs that way. In the end, what matters for you is the synth's output, not the VSTi.
so, you can let a musician do a 4klang track for you and everyone is happy! ;)

Hmm, never used 4Klang before. Only for PC I guess?!

I suggest you first decide on whether to do 4k or 64k. Music would usually be possible to do in 1-2 days given a somewhat wellknown softsynth. The obvious choices for you seem to be either 4klang (for 4k) or V2 (for 64k) - you probably wouldn't want 4k-music in a 64k intro. There might be other publically available synths/libraries you could use, but I think the main thing for you now, would be to decide which type of production you're aiming for.

If you're willing to use a 4klang track (lib should be pretty easy to implement, I'm told) I could assist you. I think I've got a track lying around with a dark'ish theme to it. Rather small (few instruments) and no default presets (Hardy slaughters musicians who use those) :D

Hah - Fair enough, it won't be a track of epic proportions or technical brilliance, but it would definitely do what it's supposed to do. For an executable compo, it's a whole different story, but for intros, where visuals usually carry the entire production, it's absolutely doable in 1-2 days. Some (Hi, Garg) would even claim 4-6 hours would suffice :-p

I admire you for this request. Scene doesn't have enough open-source music anymore these days.
If that helps get more people interesting in doing size-restricted music, it's all worth it :D
It's not like there's a gazillion entries in the executable compos, but there are some pretty nice things brewing here and there, though. Inque's 64k synth looks really cool and has some extremely interesting and different kind of features not normally found in synths. There's Gopher's 64klang which already was taken for a testrun in Fairlight's Uncovering Static. Then there's Ferris' synth which - judging by the presentation from TG, really has a great sound too. And there's LNX's 64k synth too. Can't remember the name, but it has pretty cool sound too. There's alsoApproximate's 64k synth used in Gaia Machina, but I don't know if it's still around after the devastating circumstances. And finally, there's ofcourse still 4klang and V2 around.And I'm sure there's even more synths around, that I forgot here.
So in general, I think the scene for size restricted music is actually doing quite good, and I would love for even more musicians to join up :)

The LNX’s 64k synth is Neon :)
I think considering that H0ffman pretty much wins any music compo at this point, I doubt synths are the problem ;)
