Oculus Rift, Could be interesting as a scene platform...
yea, yea, I know: "go make a demo about it"

oculus crap. iphone sewed to your head. still has low resolution. bad fov. what about eye movement. i hate it at the root.
Yeah... totally crap they are not aiming for a space rocket going at the speed of light! Course I would really like to wait ages for that to happen, while I keep sitting in front of my SO cool monitor :)
Instead those Oculus amateurs went for something with a reasonable HW standard and releasing it while I live! Shame on you!

I think we are just years away from a high fov, high resolution oculus rift. But it will come... and I can't wait for it to happen I give it max 10 years and you'll have a bendable screen wrapped around your eyes.
high resolution isn't a problem. 2 4k screens and precise lens & fiber cable optic to project onto your eyeballs. lol
thing is to get the correct healthy angles for everybody's eyes and perhaps an adjustable focal reference for the eye lens. that shit bugs on every 3d technique. i can't with that. *shrugs*

Is it possible to detect where the eye is focusing? The main problem I have with 3D movies is that you're presented with different images for each eye, making your brain go "ahhh... there be depth here!" and try to focus on different things in the image, but the DoF is baked into the image and can't be changed. Brain goes "well, shit... guess I'm just going to have to throw you down the escalator on the way out of the theatre"
With something like the Rift, if it could detect where you're trying to focus, could change the focal depth of the image. That would be cool.

Bloodnok, Oculus Rift doesn't do that, but but there has been work about eyetracking displays, e.g. in the iStar project
noname: that's why I'm waiting for the final retail version :)
