Saga Musix,
I think thec is after per-post intra-thread off-topic. So if someone happened to post an unrelated pony image, for instance, that post could be marked as off-topic and would be by default hidden.
Also, top level threads can be marked as offtopic or residue.

Saga: This is in a single individual posts in a thread. But whatever...
Ah, alright. Didn't read that part properly.
thec: LOL!
Censorship I smell in that intra-thread "off-topic mark" idea.
Who will decide when something is "off-topic"?
I don't like that idea but I have other to propose...
It would be great if TOO BIG pictures where collapsed automatically (but not for all users, that should be a configurable option like "hide big pictures").
That way, users who think that BIG ponies are little ponies would not annoy too much.

ERRATAS:
Where collapsed -> were collapsed.
BIG ponies -> BIG horses.

BiG horses -> big axtravaganzeeeeees!
(no idea! eeeehrm, what was the topic again?)

re: thec - how about thumb up / down feature for forum posts and hiding by default all the posts that have negative thumbs. i.e. the standard +1/-1 feature on pretty much any modern website that allows commenting...
btw. glad to see the debate resolved. friendship is magic, indeed!

Just to be clear, the comments were not removed, you could always view them by clicking them... it's just a way to avoid topics going to far down the road :)
So, basically all posts are off-topic, except for thec’s. Sounds like a discussion I want to be a part of!

Agree on this, however I'd have a personal settings with the hiding threshold (i.e.: hide posts with score less than 'x'), not necessarily zero.
Also, posts should be just hidden (with a 'click to show' toggle or something), not completely ignored.
What's the actual value of having replies in a thread hidden? I mean, the ACTUAL value? Aren't all these systems just a method of discouraging trolling, and not really a tool for the vast majority of users? In absolutely most cases, having the entire conversation is preferable -- even despite randomness in some posts -- because the reader just skims past them quickly. Considering Pouet only have about four or five genuine trolls, I don't really see the need to make the UX more complicated just to address what is really a non-issue.
hn has a feature where users can be banned without them knowing about it. Their posts appear to themselves, but not to others.
Comment rating via +/- buttons IS a tool for the vast majority of users. Even more so, other responsible Pouet users help getting off-topic and trollish comments out of the way.
If you want to see ALL the comments, set your hiding threshold to something like -666, and if you think person XYZ gets upvoted much, but you still don't wanna see their posts you can still use an ignore function.
I'd bet with reasonable default thresholds lots of users wouldn't even have to use ignore lists or adjust forum settings, making it easier instead of more complicated.
tl;dr: what thec, melw and Jcl said.

Imagine when this would have been active for this thread already, we'd have never seen Analogues replies :)
We're all grown ups, just do a RL ignore - gosh, ppl these days..
Oh and this comment would have been sent into oblivion as well, because it's offtopic.

oh, and (belated) major props to all involved in turning this thread from shitfest to something rather productive, especially (but not exclusively) analogue and gargaj.

ted: a tool to do what? I mean: what is the upside? Setting individual thresholds for when things are shown or not, so that some posts appear to some, but not to others? That's sort of the worst possible way to moderate a public forum - especially one that doesn't necessary need it. It reeks of over-engineering, and it will be underutilized as well. If there is to be a threshold, it should be the same for everyone, so that everyone has the same grounds for discussion, and so that discussion doesn't become fragmented.
gloom: fair point, but don't personal ignore lists do the same as well?
..but I don't feel it's needed at all. A per-thread definition is fine - for example: I don't show "Residue"-threads on the front-page of Pouet, and it works wonders to keep shit out. :)
ted: yeah, I'm not a fan of those either. I think the per-thread category is more than enough, really. Pouet doesn't really have a trolling problem.

And it's a perfect feature for trolls. On a YouTube-Channel from a friend of mine some trolls hide every normal comment by disliking it multiple times and he cannot do anything against it. So I think I am against this feature.
There is already a "troll"-setting per user, set by the admins too, if I'm not mistaken.
I remember that a solution for fake-accounts (which is really a bigger issue) was discussed at some point. Like: all new accounts have a block on them to start new threads for two weeks, and a max-post limit per day, which expires. If indeed a +/- system for comments is to be implemented, it's value would probably lie in community-moderating good comments, but not actively hiding them.
