And yes, what psionice said, times 100. Does he have a fan club that we can join?

So I have a suggestion. We, the users of pouet (who've had an account more than a week and ideally done more than post on the random image thread ;) vote for somebody to take over the running of the site, and get it through this little 'rough patch'. A bit of actual democracy and real openness.

What do you all reckon? I'm assuming analogue and gargaj would be 'candidates', anyone else? And will analogue actually listen to and respect the result?

i demand voting-rights based on glop count! let's proclamate the people's republic of pouet! [i'm joking, of course]

being more serious: i also would have loved to see the users more involved in the process, but well..

btw. i would STILL love the users to get more involved.

I'd very much like to get involved but not in any lead position, and certainly not as one of the idiots who try to maintain the 0.9 codebase in light of better options.

There's at least two people that have proven that it's no rocket science to build a pouet like site that actually works and is maintainable: Gargaj with the 2.0 beta and Chaos with http://www.farbrausch.com (though that one's a monolithic python file that has its own slew of problems)

yay, let's do pouet 3.0 based on chaos' sources! and call it frouet!

Let's see how much the current administration can cope with controversial opinions.

*Sigh* Yes, sir, very good sir. Why don't you go to all the other 6+ million projects on github you don't care about and flame/troll them, THAT will make all the difference. Analogue might be an ass for doing it *this way*, and it's not the ideal solution and BOY did we have a laugh how 15 year old hobbyist web code is not awesome sauce, but being an ass yourself and pulling crap like that is less than helpful.

kb: but doesn't it make sense to be bailing the boat so it doesn't sink before a new alternative is built, or is that not necessary?

I may be persona non grata, but if I were capable I would be helping bail the boat.
As said, fixing bugs is necessary and perfectly ok. But apart from that Pouet ran fine for the last years and will survive a month or two of preparation before new features can be built.

Is the boat sinking? Really? Don't be so dramatic! :]

The fact that people haven't yet told Analogue "Thanks, but no thanks - go away" is quite surprising.

we must be reading different threads.

but i do wonder, if analogue goes away right now, what would happen to pouet?

would all the bugfixingfairies magically come out and play?
or would we simply get hacked and no one give a fuck to restore it?

yes, by all means, let's keep inflaming the situation. let's not move on, or even at all attempt a peaceful resolve. let's boil it up some more. you are so wise gloom!

felipe, i really don't understand why you are defending analogue and his outrageous behaviour all the time.

@dipswitch: Perhaps he is just defending the possibility of a peaceful resolve.

But, for that thing, a little bit of trust is needed. Why you don't trust each other?

Come on!

what "peaceful resolve" do you have in mind? the only possible resolve here is that analogue steps up, says sorry to gargaj and all active users, gives gargaj the account back (in case gargaj still can be convinced to develop pouet 2.0), and then sits back and lives with the fact that he has been away for too long.

@dipswitch: That would be great (and peaceful).

and to prevent any "gargaj fanclub" insinuations - yes, we know eachother since a long time and always got along quite well, i think, but i haven't been on IRC since four years, we haven't directly communicated for several years, and i surely have not been told by anyone to act in this or that way.

ps: I'm sorry that I just don't accept someone coming "back" (and I use the term loosely) and upend everything ongoing in such a dickish way. Psonice already nailed it earlier. You're apparently happy because you finally got the precious old Pouet source on Github so I understand that part, but what I don't understand is how you can even possibly defend _how_ it happened.

Also: if you're so scared of being hacked "now that the code is out", wouldn't it make way more sense to let Gargaj finish and migrate to 2.0 with all its fixes sooner rather than later?

ps: This "what's done is done, let's just make peace and stop talking about the uncomfortable subject"-attitude is both lazy and stupid.

How happy Gargaj must be to have all this "support"!

Unlike the
"smarmy
overzealous
out-of-touch
cunt."
This all is such an open source nerd cliché, it's not even funny anymore. :| :P :(

sak/JML: Looks you're quite fond of quoting others, have some more then:

I'd love to continue working on it, by the way, but my login for the Pouet SSH/SQL doesn't work anymore, although they did about two hours ago.

It's from the same post you quoted, btw.

Superadmin: trolls have a tendency to do that.

Sak: I think he's pretty happy with support from actual users and contributors to Pouet. Also: that phrase is probably one of the mildest used about someone who performed a coup d'etat, ever.
