Better than anything from the scene!

category: general [glöplog]
Sometimes, Flash stuff are more entertaining than the scene. I agree with that. But since I am a coder I keep watching teh scene, while being annoyed with some people loving teh mainstream Flash and dispising demos. I understand that Flash are more to entertain like the way Glon243 did, and this annoys me because they are mainstream and I feel reactive with the scene, because it's teh undergrund. Anyways,. Shane has a good point and I remember myself thinking sometimes about that too. But since I think I am something because I am a scener I would despise myself to code in Flash. Perhaps I should just code something interactive as a coder. Games are more entertaining than minimalistic Flash..

Weebl and Bob ... ride the pie-nanny !
I love the imagination and originality that goes into some of the Flash stuff I have seen. It's not all about technical stuff. Granted there is lots of shit but salad fingers is an example of sheer genius! It's one of the most intensly unnerving things I've seen.

It looks to me like most sceners have a very poor imagination. It's not just graphics artists who copy - what about the coders who just keep making the same effects or the musicians who keep coming up with the same old noise and beats? The humour is the same old toilet, sex, nerd humour and the art demos are all the same old minimalist stuff with no thought into direction or setting up atmosphere.

To each his own, but imagination and originality is sparse in the scene.
Oh yes, the doom of the scene. Thank god the trolls are still very original ... or not..

Yeah, they were great too. Reminded me a lot of Eraserhead.
ERASERHEAD! Now there's a cool movie.

I hate all flash animations on principle.
thom: yes, go, watch them, it surely is! ./blowfish module ;)

saladfingers was special.
ttl: "Over the rainbow" was only covered by marusha, but ... it keeps to be the only song I remember from her. :)
Her radio show is pretty good sometimes.

Shane: The TAP-episode was pretty cool, the rest is wicked. But you should really learn flash now. Leaving TRSI before would be a good start. :)
yes, i once heard the original. but marushas cover was really great. always loved this remix. i think your right... this was maybe her only song which became quite popular. or at least i even can't remember another one right now.

as for marusha's "over the rainbow": to me this was nothing but a typical wishywashy cheap-beat stupid teckno track, that the 90ies were so typical for. and just the beginning of a zillion other "remixes" where known melodies / songs got a stupid beat put under and suddenly were "cool". The electronik music scene has produced way better stuff before (and after). Which was the reason why marusha's "over the rainbow" was (although a commercial success) not really apprecciated by electronic musicians back then ...

@ Shane: well, i can promise you a lot of "fuck the scene!" experiences, since the word is full of creative communities, individuals and scenes. bad for you, that the demoscene doesn't cover everything you might find.

marusha only had one hit, that one beeing ravechannel .. the rest was just ilsa gold-inflicted stuff.

back to the topic: salad fingers kicks ass. wouldn't surprise me if that's from the same guy who did the strindberg flash movies.

in a very weird and special way, marushas "over the rainbow" was something special. as well as the whole euro-pop-rave thing in the early 90s... it gave unexpected, although unfortunately not long-lasting, exposure to electronic dance music in general. westbam and carl cox features in "bravo" were definetely worth something in some way and really inimaginable from todays perspective... =)

and dalezy, hmmm, marusha surely had some more hits than that. or not?

but uhm, why are we talking about euro-rave suddenly?
