Making a presentation about digital art is cool, but demoscene content would -- perhaps controversially -- not be my first step.
If you want to talk about the demoscene that's fine, but then you should try to show what the demoscene is. Picking the most "artsy" demos and slapping a demoscene label on it is doing a disservice to the cultural heritage of the scene, IMHO.

gloom, ah, so "artsy" demos are not even demos and not party of demoscene anymore? fuck you.
definitely don't show any excess demos!!!!!
blasphemy or cncd (before ercola nad smash) ftw.

Hahahaha, goddamn Gloom, goddamn!

nosfe: WTF? That's not what I said at all. I said that if he's showing _demoscene demos_ just cherrypicking the ones that "look arty" is falsely representing the demoscene, since those are pieces of art that just happens to be demos, and not necessarily the other way around. Also, fuck you back for that utterly stupid strawman argument :)

okkie: I find it hugely ironic that whenever someone is asking for suggestions for their demoshow, people who make artsy demos make a huge stink about not enough artsy demos are being suggested. Apparently, the opposite is not tolerated, which is good to know :)
Then again, he's making a presentation for an art class, so not exactly a typical demoshow. Though, it all depends on what kind of perspective you're going to take. As I said earlier, are you going to talk about demoscene itself, or demoscene productions that you deem to have strong artistic expression.
noby: I think I will focus the presentation on the demoscene itself. By that, I mean showing different "types" of demos - because "Lifeforce" is not quite comparable to "The scene is dead", for example.
I want to show the variety of demos and the demoscene.
I want to show the variety of demos and the demoscene.
And, of course, the history. How it all began and how it evolved.
potfkdk: then I think you should definitely pick a wide variety and make the point that all of the various styles are equally welcome in the demoscene, because you never know which style/demo triggers something in the audience.
Jesus Christ Motorcross is a good example to use too, I think.
