Releasing diskmags more often?
category: offtopic [glöplog]
We have been discussing inside our staff whether we should release our diskmag more often. In this case, of course each issue would have a smaller number of articles. The advantage is that the articles would be less outdated. For example, in previous issues we had reports of parties that happened almost two years before the release of the issue. What do you prefer?
Just stop releasing them altogether.
indeed. do something creative or smth...
No, don't stop diskmags! You make Bugo unhappy!!! Gnaourl pour pour
Smaller size, interesting idea. Bugo enjoys reading more easilly smaller packets of articles than long delayed diskmags with 30 articles that he might feel there is no time to read all at once.

i hear it's popular to suggest you to go make a demo about it
*writes IT'S 2013 WELCOME TO THE INTERNET on adoks head*
It's 2013 indeed - why doesn't anybody do Appmags?
We've already thought about creating a diskmag app for smartphones but we came to the conclusion that due to the small size of the display it would not be possible to transfer the look'n'feel of the Windows engine 1:1. So creating a diskmag app would imply that we would have to reformat all the articles in order to make them look good and legible on a smartphone display. Because of this I think it is far more efficient simply to offer the articles in HTML as an online edition which can be read on PC and smartphones alike; then you can change the font size etc. yourself depending on your personal preferences.
D.Fox: the idea has crossed my mind :) when will the revision app be updated ?
adok: release it once, and update the article list whenever a new article is added. Welcome to 2003.
Adok: tablet app not smartphone app ;-)
On a tablet PC you can run any program that can be run on an ordinary PC that uses an analogous operating system. BTW, I don't know if our diskmag engine runs on Windows 8...
Adok: nobody cares. Neither about you, nor diskmags.

What is special about the engine ? When was it made and last update ? My memory might be failing me but I don't remember seeing anything special or different from the diskmags I was reading back in the 90'sBTW, I don't know if our diskmag engine runs on Windows 8...
Maybe it is time to revisit that engine and face the today's landscape. Maybe the diskmag format is not working anymore for your audience. I can understand that the diskmag format "adds some value" for retro scenes but for a "broader" audience, I doubt it. It's 2013 baby: Make a damn web mag with fancy webGL, CSS3D and audio shoopdawoop on top if you and your readers want. But don't limit your own audience to one OS.
are we still arguing about the interface when at the same time there's obvious noone's gonna provide quality content?
That's like saying "I'm not going to do a party because todays demos suck" :) WHERE'S YOUR SPIRIT?
p01: As long as my poor puter can handle the js (over)load and it's not Chrome-only again, it might be worth a try.
But as gargaj said, the main issue is content. It's a question of who & what rather than where & how.The level of enthusiasm for diskmags is long gone.

gargaj: i am the only excited over someone throwing his time overboard to host adoks brand of latent mensa-nazism in a fancy well-crafted hour-guzzling digital shell?
It would be nice to have more frequent diskmags. I was thinking daily releases!
why not a pure coders magazine where people can write about what they work on, algorithms, ideas, and so forth. a general diskmag of today dont have alot of coders tutorials, so i almost never read them. also make it online. in html format or something like that, so people dont have to run it with a grpahics card that are outdated.
What Gargaj said :p
Tomaes: Notice I wrote " if you and your readers want ". In a *mag, the content is king and there's no reason the presentation should make the content less accessible/enjoyable. It is possible to do feature and some kind of performance detection to suggest the user to opt-in for extra smoosh.
