Which was your first 3D accelerated demo?
category: general [glöplog]
It was Final Reality for me, I think, and in the beginning of '99, Yoda and I tried to be in the pioneer group of 3d acceleration, too, and converted the SDs software engine to a shitty voodoo2 version. Result was "1st Demo II" which was SO crappy that almost noone knows/remembers it. Which was luck. :)
never heard of "1st demo II" kb ;)
the first acc demo from SDS was black to me. quite nice, although surely no need for 3d acc =)
however, black2000 rocked ass

final reality or bleam
fuck 3d
fuck fuck
who cares
thg & droid: true, true.
I guess my first 3d accelerated demo was some piece of 3ds flyby crap that sucked ass and had absolutely no design (and was probably beaten by every damn software prod at the time).

must have been a mfx demo then
*grin*

thg: Nah, our no-design 3ds flybys were software demos;-)
what was the first 4d accelerated demo you saw?
There are lots of 4d accelerated-drunken-3d-spinning-objects at Boozembly-rocks every year. Smell included!
Probably Nature by Vertigo, but i was more surprised by the quality of their software rasterizer.
1st stuff that impressed me was contour and bleam. Those prods still look impressive today.
About the 1st... :) probably some unkwnown demo. My 1st demo had glide support (although it was turned off), but it isnt even the pouet database (it was a piece of shit :), and that was 98 IIRC

yeah, it's not like anyone should really care who was the first scener to draw some crap using glide... the gus was a similar hardware milestone for the pc scene, but why should anyone know that twilight zone's "jungly kitchen" was the first demo to support it, unless you have a serious trivia obsession (but last I checked, you can't even win "do you want to be a millionaire" with your mastery of scene trivia, that sucks ;))
correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the first acc. demo was 'planet cornball', I forgot who made it though... Komplex?
/Inopia
ps: it was also the first acc demo I saw :)

Komplex indeed. But I thought it was some 3dfx compo thingie, and I never got to see it in action (it being voodo only and all)
Saffron: yeah, The Jungly Kitchen was afaik the first to support gus, but it was bloody afwul code, crashed a lot on my box. ;)

it's always fun to see how shifter forms an opinion about a piece of code.
There's an MPG version of Planet Cornball around on the Gathering FTP if I'm not mistaken.
I have the MPG anyway, if you want to see it...
Then again, there's not much to see.

I guess Trip by Kosmic was the first one i saw.
I think it was final reality at asm 97... I would really like to see it again, and understand if it ruled or sucked... actually I can't remember =)
final reality or nature by vertigo, can't remember :)
The Final Reality page is finally gone, it seems...
If you want Final Reality, you can download it here for example:

Well, I may be no coder plek, but I kinda have this rule of thumb:
Code that runs nearly everywhere in a decent way is nice enoughg, and code that requires the coder to haul his own box over to the organizer's booth to even work on the big screen is [expletive deleted].
So if you think I slammed code in my statement, err...I've seen worse ;)

Contour/TBL (rocks....)
Bleam/ Lionhead
And Final Reality/Remedy, obviously...

http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=5493, i think, when it comes to demoscene releases.
People seem to be forgetting Soepkip sqrt(25), not shown at Ambience'99 and released at Takeover'99, much to the dismay of kb et al, who wanted to release "1st demo ii" at Ambience'99 as well, but got a sort-of perfunctory showing on the big-screen after the compo.
Good times.
