linux program i wrote, it renders like a gif image but its fun to watch:
it draws a julia set multiple times slicing through either the imaginary or real c value. the slices are done in a glsl shader and there are currently 1000 slices. each slice goes through 100 iterations

this time w/ pushbutton rotaries and 4 additional pushbuttons ..and more sturdy :-)
firmware is going to be GPLV3, I'll release the whole schematics + code when it's ready.
parts are ~100e or maybe ~70e if you go for the cheap stuff.

@xyz: isn't F4 a bit of overkill for MIDI? You could probably process audio streams or make a synth with that. :)

@KK: yep, that's why that box has an (optional) VGA-out (in exchange for the pots) and a line-out :-) and the F4 board is less expensive than the average Arduino or ATMega32 dev kits!
