Sooo, did anyone actually watch that compostudio all the way to the end?

Yea. Me. :)

show me the way to the next karaoke bar... oooh, dont ask whyyyy... oooh dont ask whyyyy..
I *really* enjoyed doing that compostudio. I think we discussed some really interesting things and most importantly people weren't afraid to call me on my bullshit ;)

I hope (despite the length) that people who watched it liked it, and that we can pull something from it - first and foremost that we need to replace the water on the table with vodka =)

Saw the compostudio to the end. Yes, it was long, but generally quite ok. When you're sofa scening, one of the things you can't do is to discuss what you just saw (and how awesome it was back in the days etc) - luckily the compostudio gives you a tiny bit of that :)

I watched it till the end, but i'm pretty i heard some glass bottles clinking off screen :)
Just wanna say I really liked the demo compostudio. The best one to date, I would say.

Thanks - I'm hearing from a lot of people that I talked too much and gave my opinion for waaaaay too long. All I can say to that is: I *had* just been fed 4 beers, 2 pints of Jaloviina and coke, a Gin Longdrink and have had 10 years of trying to stay impartial so I figured sod it, I'll just keep talking until someone seemed pissed off enough to want to counter what I was saying. I think it worked, some people, not so much.

It was my last broadcast (I'm probably taking a break next year) and I was happy with it. Hopefully for those that watched it was better than just going to sleep ;)

dotwaffle: yes the start was quite a gruelling experience, I thought the guests were all going to fall asleep.. glad you got it back on track after Gloom said a few times to do so!

Thanks! Yeah, it was a bit of a clusterfuck, but at the end of the day I think it was enjoyable, and we might be able to salvage at least a couple of minutes of material to use elsewhere. Good work all - and seriously, the credit almost never goes to LiveCrew who basically do all the work for this English muppet who comes along and ruins it all; major kudos to all of them!

I think this was the first asm-demostudio that I didn't watch to the end. (Well, of the ones I watched at all, obviously.) It's fine that people want to go a _bit_ off-topic, but when the discussion is going in all directions, there are fifteen people there and _you cannot participate yourself_, it becomes massively uninteresting. (FWIW, the most interesting perspective came from the US guys, in my opinion.)

Most of the people involved could barely even remember the entries; what about splitting “general demoscene debate” into its own TV event, and reserve the compostudio for a small amount of people who have actually prepared for it?

dotwaffle; If you're the only one to take credit, you're also the only one to take the heat. ;)

I didn't mind it going to all directions, demo compostudio is really one of a kind and always kind of special. I admit we didn't limit the discussion topic to the compo entries that religiously but it was altogether very interesting.

Getting guests to compo studios this year was more difficult than usual but like always, there's the exception with the last one: loads of people rush in to the demo compostudio. And I really like that.

Demoscene debate kind of content at this extent on AssemblyTV probably wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for the demo compostudio. Sceners tune in to watch the demo compo and the studio follows so that's when we have the chance to really get people there. And to me the record-breaking nearly 2 hour broadcast felt like a worthwhile show. I also liked the fact dotwaffle spoke his mind, it brought a nice edge to it and provoked others to talk. Stands strong among my favourite experiences producing the Assembly compo studios since 2005. No match for the epic 64k armwrestling studio from 2007 though with meaty, navis, smash and reed - imagine what it would've been like with those guys present!

On a more personal note, in this thread, much has been said about Assembly being all about spectacle among parties. That's true, of course, but I still hope 64k and other oldskool compos besides oldskool demo making their way back to the compo lineup next year. To be honest, I almost dropped out of the crew when I heard about the new rules. I've disliked the trend of combining things more or less awkwardly at Asm since 2002 when multichannel/mp3 was removed in favor of vocal/instrumental. For some reason and unlike in anything else, when it comes to demoscene productions, I'm a fan of categories and restrictions.

Well said. But also realise that part of my job is to act the idiot, saying controversial things so that people get motivated enough to passionately argue against me. I'd say 1/3 of the time when I say something I'm attempt to stir up that emotion, and make people prove me wrong. I only did that once or twice this time, as I felt it wasn't necessary.

If we just discussed the entries that should would have been a nice retrospective... but dull. I like what we produced. Gloom was absolutely right, when I mentioned 2 or 3 entries we ought to have talked about all the rest too. That's my fault. But we did get around to them, and taken as a whole I am proud of it.

I appreciate criticism, and if someone says "this was shit because of x, you should consider y" I am very happy.I can learn from that, or ignore it if needs be. What pisses me off is when someone says "x is shit, fucking idiot" - what can you learn from that? Thankfully, we seem to have had a mostly positive feedback (except the length and waffling by me) and I hope to see someone improve on it in successive years to come :-)

At this point I should mention that Irvin and me decided to go to the compostudio because it was the most likely place to gather before heading to Boozembly. Invites are for pussies. Then -- talking happened... and more, and more.. and by the end, I was almost sober again.

I do felt it wandered off to various topic offshoots for waaaay too long, but hey: that's compostudio for you. I would have liked discussing the entries more, but I stand by what I said: if everyone has to look over to the screen to remember 9 of the 12 demos then... well.. that sort of speaks for itself.

I hope the compostudios will be avalaible somewhere.

And as usual: thanks for the great streams (both ASMTV & SceneSat)

Yeah, the ASMTV streams were nice and stable as usual. It seems also that the encoder quality has improved a bit over previous years—it might simply be that particles and noise is less “in fashion”, and it's still not good for 8Mbit/sec, but I couldn't really see it go “awawaww HELP ME” every other entry this year like it's done previous years.

Well, except for the MFX 4k, when it just gave up and didn't even update the bottom of the picture :-)

PS: Could you please mention on your ASMTV schedule page that the times are in the Finnish timezone, and not CEST or UTC? I know people who missed the 1k compo because of that.
