Solskogen 2012 - Dawn of the Dead Pixels
category: parties [glöplog]
Another thump for the risotto from here! Was much appreciated.
actually i ate so well that i seem to have gotten all fat during the party! wtf! I blame the organizers!

mowing the football field was a really bad move (I know the organizers had nothing to say in that matter)
didn't someone actually note that the guy admitted for having tried for years to keep solskogen from happening?
Gargaj: hah, no. But I was told (I wasn't at the partyplace when he arrived this year) that he was pissed because "This happens EVERY YEAR! Why can't you people learn to ask for permission?!?!"
..which is exactly what I do. Every year. And I get. Every year.
Someone needs to talk to their boss a little more frequently, and it sure isn't me.

revival/nic0: good to hear :) Now I just need to come up with something even better for next year.
revival: please ... never thump a risotto ... thumb if if you must, the other results in a mess equal to the grass everywhere :-p

okkie: Maybe you should have been there. :-)
Daaaaaamn son!
I wish I could've! :(
By far the smoothest Solskogen so far:
+ Foods - on time, an espcially the BBQ meats had way higher quality this year
+ Compos - on time! And did not seem as stressed as other years, both compo orgas had time for a quick chat now and then
+ Free beer from Outracks.... free beer.. IN NORWAY - awesome!
+ Xerxes - "free rum and coke" on thursday.... wtf? AWESOME! <3
+ Soccer compo - my knee bahves weird after this :)
+ Annual showerbeer - this is going to be sooo annual :)
I didn't at all get to talk to enough people this year, because I did some work to participate in the compos (I had nothing when I arrived, but really WANTED to participate in the compos)
I only have one small suggestion - maybe the compos could be started a few hours earlier - would make room for a bit longer breaks in between.
See you next year - and some of you in a few months :)
also: REJEMAD OG UNFJOL!

Yep. You guys nailed it. Again.
Yep, need to thank for the free Outracks beer. Really generous donation to the visitors.
.. and this one girl? she DID get her rack out ;)

This was a point of contention between us organizers as well for a few reasons:
- Food preparation takes time, you don't want to start a compo while people are still standing in line outside.
- Lighting conditions before 8-9PM make graphics compos essentially impossible to run at that point and I still wasn't entirely happy the way they looked on the bigscreen when we started.
- Deadlines are a bitch. Yes, I'm looking at you. ALL OF YOU.
- A good music compo can charge the mood way way up, less so if it's ran way too early. KG is often a great example where a music compo works out beautifully, but there we have less compos so we can have more breaks.
I'm not sure of a good solution to be honest at this point: we managed to absolve SOME of it by doing a "hybrid" compo, where graphics are bookended by music, but it's still rather suboptimal.
Gargaj: which I can perfectly understand - especially during this time of year (mid summer, filled of with sunlight).
I guess the only way to really solve that would be to:
a) have a VERY light intesive projector
b) be able to darken the hall/room
And both of those are quite difficult to actually arrange for a party of this size/location (we have had, and to some extend have the same issues at TRSAC)

puryx: we're actually working to all three things next year. A brighter projector, dark drapes to replace the almost white ones that are in the hall all year, and in addition to that -- start the compos a little earlier.

considering 95% of all the prods I've ever done have been mostly partycoded, I vote against this :D
gloom: Maybe we should get some garbage bags up on the roof to darken the windows there…
aaaaah, a chance to go on the roof again \o/
sesse: blast from Solskogen past - we used to do that in 2002/2004 I recall :)
just go up on the roof and do a raindance, if the clouds are thick enough that will solve the problem *wry*
gloom: Well, yes, I was referring to a certain incident with the garbage bags and the window. :-)
Did someone somehow record the video stream from the compos? I managed to miss it because I had stupidly promised to attend some kind of party (drinking was involved).
Of course I can watch the prods, I just wanted the "live" feeling :)
I think Scenesat is supposed to have this.
