commissioning a demo?
category: offtopic [glöplog]
Hey guys. I'm in a band, have been a big fan of the demoscene (myself have done nothing but some opengl stuff many years ago and getting involved in 0x10c nowadays). We're doing a chiptune-inspired track and I reckon a demo vid would be amazing as a music video. I don't know if this is compatible with scene mentality or not. Is it possible to commission productions? Even slightly customising something existing might do the trick. Replies here or emails (kierenjx@gmailx.com - remove both x's) welcome. Cheers guys :)
it has happened before in the past, i can tell you that much.
btw, you can greatly increase the probability of it occuring by directly contacting people whose work you like instead of having a generic call advert. open calls in the demoscene have a tendency to derail or leave folks indifferent. so i would email people instead of waiting for an email if i were you.
that is true - plus actually taking a listen to the track greatly increases the chance of getting someone interested.
or just pick a demo you really really like, contact the creators for approval and have someone with basic video editing skills hack a new version together for ya.
variform 2 is sadly already taken by Justin Bieber...

yeah, what Maali said :)
do you have some ideas of what kind of demo you need/want? I'm sure you already mentally choosed some :)
If _I_ would want to have a demo as music video, I'd make sure it's not just some hacked up / mashed up stuff made for other audiences. Remember, a music video is (besides other things) an ad for your music and hence should be tailored to what you want your audience to see and hear. Some half-assed job would be easily identified as such and won't get you the attention you want to attract. But then again, that depends on your ambition as a band and your budget. But since you didn't drop a name or any links to your music, I'd suspect that you don't have either. (no offense, really)
Google skillz lead me to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand_%28band%29
Which again leads to this
Well 0x10c being Notch's new baby I can see some popularity coming down on whoever is involved in the development (and if its "only" the music, see c418).
Might be good for some additional attention, if anyone is even interested ;D
