Revision 2012
category: parties [glöplog]
Sorry, I've come home after work via the pub and I'm being mean.. It was a nice article written from the heart of an old school scener. Good work! :)
I'm of two minds -- loved the report, got overwhelmed by volume levels -- and danced my ass right off during h0ffman's set (I admit I missed most of knoeki's because I was busy with delicious beverages, iirc).
[aside1: Vegan options would be nice, I think when the thread appears next year if I go next year I'll propose a banding together as there's probably not enough people for a kiosk (as I have recently joined that demographic, ha, due to force majeure). ]
[aside2: It would be awesome to see a CPC demo at @party, we've been pretty strong in oldskool vs PC demos for some weird reason, but no CPC prods yet.
*wink wink say no more*]

@Rowley Birkin from "the writer of that report": indeed, I don't like loud repetitive music. i prefer jazz, blues or soundchip tunes.
Where do you read something about "demos that don't resemble cpc demos"?! PC demo competition was crap, it's a fact. But I like some other competitions (PC 64k for example was interesting), and then, demos that "don't resemble cpc demos".

Revision 2012 in party mode PICTURES!, MOOOOVING!
I must add than I wish that Gargaj, Knoeki and DjHoffman won't be shocked by my opinions. I think that a lot of people already love your musics!

techno music, big beat, loud bass and repetitive sample

Nice one Dirtie! Great video, captures the atmos-fear perfectly!
Yeah, that's a balling video!!! Great work!
Hello mr. Amstrad CPC coder, using only the real hardware to write z80 assembly code, and who disagrees with the general "artistic turn" of the recent demomaking, you're entitled to your opinion that the PC demo competition was crap, but that doesn't necessarily make it a fact. Your assertion that demomaking is about battle, competition, breaking the limits you reminded me of the 90s because it was the last time I heard people seriously claim demomaking philosophy must stay harsh, demanding and difficult. That's not to say I don't appreciate your opinion, I just think it is endearingly quaint :)
As for your musical POV, jazz, blues or soundchip tunes can be just as loud and repetitive as any other genre, which, even as a fan, you should be aware of. It would be respectable if you would have actually listened to their sets and argued that Knoeki's or Hoffman's mixing was off or something to that effect, but as it stands, what you're writing is basically "the music I didn't like was too loud", which is Waldorf and Statler territory ;)

Why do 2ManyDJs keep being relevant here.. scary!
And just to be clear, I am in no way dissing Hicks party report! It's just some fun.
Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional!
but Okkie, you ...
remember "The Quiz", that was harsh, demanding and difficult.

My dear Rowley Birkin. I assume the total subjective aspect of my report, of my view of demomaking, music and else :) I know that a lot of people will disagree with me, people who like a lot techno music and PC demo competition. It's why I warned that it was an "oldschool POV", and I'm really aware that there is a gap between my POV and other sceners POV. By all the interest lies in opposite opinions :)
dodge: lolol :D Dude, it's really scary having things being thrown at you, even if they are magnetic darts!
Okkie: right, but I was actually refering to what happened to the Dutch Team at TRSAC 2011 xD

I'm sorry, I get itchy when someone pigeonholes "electronic music" as "techno". >:(
