What would it take for a European scener to travel to a Russian party?
category: parties [glöplog]
So... how would you describe a Russian party you would totally go to? Rivers of booze and heaps of moaning females aside. :)
Not that I'm planning to organize anything in near future, but it's definitely something to consider, and I'm curious as to how it should be these days to be on par with the nicer parties out there. Like, what aspects are completely necessary, what is nice to have, and what expenses and hurdles people are generally comfortable with.

because I want to visit moscow and st.petersburg, I looked at the way from home... and it is faaaar away. so be near a nice airport and a description how to get from the airport to the hall would be the most important thing.
So pick a nice location, where it is cheap to fly to and you can get some people from here to there ;-)

And remember that the police prefer their bribes in dollars or euros.
move russia closer to mainland europe? as i see it the most successfull international parties (except asm) are situated in countries that are easy accesible by car (germany, holland, poland and france).
Saint Petersburg is closer to Europe, particularly Finland and Norway borders, so it might end up a cheaper place to travel to compared to Moscow; the airport is definitely closer to downtown, and the venues themselves are likely cheaper by a sizable count. (Can't say for sure about the last one as I don't live there and can't say which are even suitable for such an event.) But Chaos Constructions is already held there, and it doesn't seem particularly popular among the European crowd--what are the reasons beside traveling costs and possible visa hurdles? Also, what is an average traveling cost one would be willing to pay to go to a party?
(For the record, there are three airports in Moscow—they're all pretty far from the city, but they all have a convenient express train connecting them to the subway system.)

rasmus/loonies:
Damn, that's what I was afraid of. :\ What are the successful parties you're speaking of, btw? Evoke, Revision and tUM are all Germany IIRC, no idea what major parties are held in the rest of the countries you've listed.

honestly - nuffing interesting, except Russian demosceners.
Maybe more Russian sceners should come more to European demoparties, make friends there and then start making them feel guilty about never visiting Russian parties. I go to parties to meet up with people and I don't ever recall meeting that many Russians at Breakpoint, for example... some, yes, but not many.
St. Petersburg is a easy one by train for anyone in Helsinki. Makes me wonder whether aligning the party weekend with some Helsinki based party (foreign attendees could do both parties) would work. Maybe there'd be even a possibility to do sth like Evoke/Buenzli and have lower combined ticket price if you do both parties..
I would probably visit Russian parties more often if there weren't always such a hassle with visas, hotels etc. So, keep your partyplaces open 24H and tell your politicians to drop the travel bureaucracy, and you'll get many more European visitors (especially Finnish, I think!)
Cheap airlines and free weekends. And a good job back home.
In Russia, you don't travel to parties, parties travel..urugh, nevermind.
I'd go to a Russian party if it weren't for the hassle of getting a visa
Europeans are lazy and fear difficulties. So please stay in your EU yard, it's very dangerous outside.
seriously, go to dihalt and be hardcore.
Russian demo parties are sweet enough:

I recommend to travel to the russian party through Moscow, because it got the biggest medieval fortress in Europe - you shouldn't miss it!
Russians are hospitable, so you'll got a warm welcome on the party from everybody (if you are not too drunk and still can speak english).

if i could be sure to make it over the border i would go
a stable infodesk!
Now, let's see... quality women, booze, $... probably a lot more, but that was what first came to my mind :)
,as well.
I'd actually love to go to a demoparty in Russia. For me it's not about what the party "has to do" in terms of features, compos etc, but more about timing -- the date. I work a lot and have very little free time, so accidentally having it on a good date that works for me is pretty much the only clincher :)
Date.
